Lakers broadcasters...
Lakers Broadcasters hate Clippers
I am interested in hearing people's comments/opinion about Lakers broadcasters. There is one guy I despise most from them all...in my opinion, and just my opinion, John Ireland is the, THE WORST. Most biased individual ever. I listen to him on ESPN LA, guy worships Lakers and everyone else means nothing...I mean, this guy is ridiculous. He NOW started talking about the Clippers (but is a bandwagon) of course.
Thoughts? Opinion??

lucky for me
i got to watch the whole clippers vs. lakers game on LTV. the entire broadcast is horrible. the commentary and delivery atrocious. i heard james worthy or the other guy make an interesting comment about the clippers saying “they are still the clippers” at half time. one of the in game announcers said the clippers are a cocky team. i heard some other small things. i know ralph and mike are total “homers” but it’s funny when the lakers announcers bad mouth the clippers. they are so scared and jealous at the same time.
chalk it up to laziness
seems like it is just easier to fall back to old habits than actually take the time to get to know these clippers. can’t imagine how multiple clippers acknowledging that there is “no rivalry” between lakers and clips due to lakers’ dominance of the city series and how clips hope to make it a rivalry can be thought of as cocky. maybe they need to listen to their own players, like Barnes and his opinion of Lob City, and Kobe saying that he ‘hears all the noise’ about the Clippers…implying that he could do something about it on his own.
true
as the players do, the lakers announcers are very condescending talking about the clippers.
The TV commentary duo are actually pretty solid.
Though I think B-Mac is a step down from Joel Meyers.
I agree. But Spiro Dedes was really good...
Ireland can’t touch him. The way I understand it, the Lakers wanted Dedes to be exclusive. Did they want the same thing from Meyers? Who works regularly in the NFL. Bill McDonald is meh. And Stu Lantz doesn’t have a clue, does he?
Stu Lantz only knows how to talk about the "length" of players
And it’s super awkward every time.

Are you kidding me the Lakers broadcasters are the definition of vanilla
they add absolutely nothing valuable other than state what is going on in front of them. You essentially get he same experience watching the game muted as you would watching it with the laker commentary.

I don't know what Laker fans think of guys like Ireland...
but I do know that a lot of Laker fans don’t like their commentary duo. Then again, next to Chick Hearn, most announcers pale in comparison.
We’ve been lucky enough to have our very own version of Chick Hearn in Ralph Lawler for all these years.

Not a Hearn fan.
When I moved to LA (twenty odd years ago) I was horrified by Chick Hearn. He thought he was the Lakers GM. Loved Ralph right away.
Maybe I’m spoiled, I grew up with Marv Albert and the Knicks. Ralph’s different but just about as good as Marv.
Hearn's a legend in my book...
but to each his own. Hearn, Lawler, and Vin Scully are the gold standard for broadcasters, IMO.

Oh...
and Dave Neihaus also belongs in that gold standard list.

I would add Marv Albert to that list
also Marv has the additional talent of being a multi sport broadcaster with his NFL broadcasts, I think Ralph did some hockey early in his career.

Vin Scully takes the crown.

Well..
sometimes when it’s past 730 and you’re old enough to be my grandparents it happens.. Justkidding of course swami..
But yeah Scully is really smooth, but he’s very knowledgeable with the game. He knows the history, the stats, the personality..etc. It’s like listening to a respectable figure talk about how it was like back in the day, or an announcer being able to paint a vivid picture with words. I could be looking at my laptop and listening to Scully and imagine every single pitch and swing. It’s rare to find an announcer that doesn’t even need a partner. When Scully hands up his mic for good, will be one of the saddest days in Dodger history.

Lakers broadcasters are the absolute worst
Just ridiculous for an organization that considers itself the class of the league. To go from Chick Hearn to what they have now is a disgrace. And, my opinion doesn’t come a Clippers fan that hates the Lakers. They’re just downright bad. Worse homerism than Ralph and Mike. They will criticize the Clips. Stu Lanz is as bad as any regular Lakers fan as far blaming refs is concerned. And, this is his favorite breakdown of a play as he watches the replay: “Kobe dribbled around there for a while and then said, ’I’m going to take this shot.’” Never anything constructive, just nerd-like awe for anyone in a Lakers uni.
the thing that annoys me about stu
it’s always “he said”.. ok for example.. kobe scores and stu will say.. “kobe gets the ball on the wing and says, im going to take it aaallll by myself” anyone ever notice that?
Spiro Dedes was really good
He’s off with the Knicks now. I really liked the Dedes-Thompson radio crew. They had a really good chemistry. Ireland-Thompson will take time to gel. Thompson is really good and really funny. He’s more big picture and less homerish.

Speaking of the Knicks
Frazier’s rhyme thing is so awful. I dont see how anyone likes him.
Its weird to think how cool Clyde Frazier and Joe Namath were in the late 60's and early 70's in NY.
Listening to them now shows what age happens to everybody.

Ralph lawler is the best and Lakers broadcaster don't come close.
Thanks to Ralph he’s made watching the Clippers bearable all these days.
I have no desire to listen to a Laker broadcast whatsoever.
It was one thing when they had Hearn who was the golden standard for basketball, but not these other guys.

Bad
A couple of weeks back, I posted similar sentiments on a Clippers FB fan page:
I’ve grown to really dislike local Laker broadcasts, both radio and television. To listen to these clowns, you would think the Lakers were the Harlem Globetrotters in a league full of Washington Generals.
and it got quite a bit of feedback.
i think we are just all so blessed to have Milph
other announcers just cant hold it against ours…and thats fact not opinion
mad respect for Chick though.
Ralph, "Last year so often with Blake Griffin you would see these things coming, with Paul, he's so crafty, all of a sudden boom there it is."
laker guys are very, very bad
i miss chick hearn, id enjoy watching a team i didnt even like because he was so unforgettable behind the mic. imo ralph is one of the few guys doing his thing right now that’s even close to chick’s level.
Some Laker fans don't like Lawler
but that’s probably because they’re not used to hearing about some history or real commentary. They like to hear Kobe..Kobe..Kobe..

A lot of fans of other teams don't like Ralph and Milph
when they hear them. Feel they ooh and aah too much about “all things Blake”
"Great Balls Of Fire, Reggie's Back!"
Mike and Ralph ARE Milph...
Another mistake like that and we’ll drag you in for questioning regarding the disappearance of John R.
ireland is id rather cut my ears off than
Listen to him always hating on clips always now hes trying to kiss up to get cp & giys like that on his show but i hate his work

I can't remember the last time I watched an entire local Laker telecast...
The only way I can stomach watching a Purple and Piss game is if they’re on ABC, ESPN, or TNT, and even then, their games are often boring to watch. I stopped listening to 710 ESPN soon after they dropped the Clippers and picked-up the Lakers; it’s pretty much to the point where the Clips are persona non-grata over there on the Worthless Leader in Sports. KLAC 570 toned-down their Laker homerism when they lost the rights, mostly because their programming is nearly 100% national…although Vic the Brick is still doing his usual slobbering. I can hardly wait, however, when the Laker Propaganda Cable Networks (English and Spanish) starts-up next season, although I have DirecTV, so I may not get it.
