Michael Jordan thinks only Kobe Bryant deserves comparisons

There have been far too many “the next Jordan” guys to come through the league, an unfair burden put on a lot of players. Kobe is the only guy with the will and the skill to even come close. Kobe and Jordan are cut from the same cloth, both driven to compete, to win, to do whatever it takes to get there. Their will and drive stood out in the ultra-competitive NBA. There will not be many more like them.

Sometimes, we should sit back and enjoy what we have. Savor it. Enjoy watching Kobe for being Kobe, not argue about what he is or is not. A player like Kobe we will not see maybe again...

check out this article its a great one to read and appreciate as an nba fan.

Its about time Jordan, Congratulations Kobe...

Griffin will also be the next Kobe!

actually

and i’m not knocking on Kobe or anything…

but Blake is a different type of player than Kobe/Jordan…if anything Blake is the next Wilt Chamberlian or something

Blake has the same "play til the buzzer" fire that Kobe has, though.

I still remember Kobe being the only one who didn’t think Blake did anything wrong when he was fighting for a rebounding with 8 seconds left and a 9 point lead (or whatever it was). Phil and Pau defended Odom, but Kobe was like, “nothing wrong with that.”

yes and CP3 does also

both of those guys can be considered compared to legends…just not MJ completely

Kobe is the closest copy to MJ

Oh yea CP3 for sure

Dude is so serious all the time, shouting at DJ to get back on D and stop celebrating. I love it.

Go back to SSR

Also unlike Jordan Kobe has always been very reliant on another teammate to get his rings, without Shaq he doesn’t get his first three rings, without Pau there is no way he get’s his second two. While Jordan had Pippin it wasn’t the same sort need based relationship between the two, Pippin needed Jordan but Jordan didn’t need Pippin.

+Infinity

Kobe didn’t do anything in between Shaq’s departure and Pau’s arrival. All Kobe did was whined, cried, and demanded a trade.

Statistically, Pippen was good but not incredible.

Doesn’t matter which advanced stat you use… PER is the easiest to see.

depends

Kobe is the closest thing to a modern day MJ

LeBron is no where near MJ because he lacks one of MJ’s most important qualities…competitive drive/clutchness

so as far as….who is more like MJ…Kobe or LeBron? its clearly Kobe
but is LeBron better than Kobe? that is a question….however you might the infer that if LeBron is better than Kobe, then LeBron is better than Jordan…i’m not ready to make that statement yet, not for a long time

I would say that Lebron is a more skilled player

and if we were to judge the two in a vacuum than I would take Lebron over Kobe all day, however because basketball is judged with a lot of emphasis on what you have achieved Kobe gets the bump. So to summarize skills Lebron > Kobe but in terms of career Kobe > Lebron

Still you have to admit that if Kobe has the ball down by one with 5 seconds to go

you are more nervous than you would be with pretty much any player.

Sure

It’s because he can get the shot off better than anyone. The results, however, are very poor. He’s a damn glory hog. He once had a stretch between ’03-09 where he attempted 56 game winning shots and generated a single assist in that same time span. Yikes!

This guy got the wrong Los Angeles team blog!

Having said that, the caption under the pic in the article of Kobe and MJ at the All Star game is hilarious!

This guy has post this here, Celtic and Bulls Blog

Interesting choices anyway when checking the bulls post i read this was definetly worth sharing it here: ‘I guess MJ doesn’t even know how good he was.’

Wilt Chamberlain > Jordan > Elgin Baylor > Magic Johnson > Larry bird > Kobe > Dr. J

Wilt Chamberlain during one season was averaging 50 pts per game at around 50-70 percent shooting.

I would say Jordan is definitely better than Wilt

Wilt was playing in a time where the competition wasn’t very good and he still never won a championship my top would go like this
1.Jordan
2.Russell
3.Wilt
4.Magic
5.Bird
6.Kareem
7.Kobe
8.Dr.J

Did Wilt win one...checking.. yeah you are right

but still a player that dominant in that era should have won more.

Same order for me

Though I’d put Shaq and LeBron before Dr. J. If LeBron continues to not win championships, though, he’d drop down I suppose.

It's funny that Clipper fans have more respect for the former Laker greats than Laker fans

A lot of Laker fans would put Kobe above Magic, Kareem, Baylor and Chamberlain

i

Am not a bandwagoner, despite bandwagoning in the 09 season, if u that qualifies. I just never joined clipsnation till recently, but I have had older accounts that kept crashing.

Oh not you

I just meant Laker fans are a lot of the times bandwagoners, and bandwagoners could give a rats ass about players they only read about.

Yeah

Baylor at one point was getting 20 rebounds or more a night.
I think Kobe is over -appreciated, a bit like Hardaway.

I guess Jordan never watched any Clippers games.

I would rather take the best Clippers guard of all time Baron Davis over Kobe any day.

by docescobar07 on Jan 18, 2012 9:06 PM PST reply actions

okey doke

your sarcasm trap is flawed, no one is saying than any clipper player has a better career than Kobe. But to say that he is anywhere near as good as Jordan is just a lack of awareness of just how good Jordan was in his prime. Kobe is great and will be a first ballot hall of famer but to say he is anywhere near Jordan’s level of skill and accomplishment is demeaning to Jordan.

Maybe it's not about being as talented as MJ

But just having that same hunger, that same need to win. Kobe can be Diet MJ.

he is like MJ

except nowhere near as efficient, not nearly as good a passer, not nearly as good a defender, and not nearly as efficient in the clutch.

Exactly

He’s a better free throw shooter though! haha

by Wilpatyo on Jan 19, 2012 10:24 AM PST up reply actions

In his best year, 05'06, he did a pretty good Jordan immitation

But he didn’t come close to the real thing (MJ in his prime) of course, but pretty solid. And I think Kobe can be an amazing defender when he wants to be (see: complete destruction of Randy Foye in that one possession in the game last weekend), but he just doesn’t want to be a great defender all the time (which is why I agree with Steve that he shouldn’t keep getting put on the all-defensive team).

Still, Kobe’s footwork is as good as Jordan’s. His ability to adapt on the fly is as good as Jordan’s. His fadeaway is as good as Jordan’s. And his mindset is right up there with MJ. In specific ways, he’s got similarities to Jordan, but of course I agree the entire package doesn’t come close.

MJ is to Kobe as ...

a) Jessica Alba is to a Kardashian
b) Abraham Lincoln is to George W. Bush
c) a rib eye is to a double-double
d) Tom Brady is to Tim Tebow
e) all of the above

Proudly enduring the pain since the days of Bill Walton's foot.
