Boris Diaw anyone?
We tossed around 'Sheed's name when it became publicly known he was attempting a comeback, so I figure we may as well discuss any 3-5s that hit the wire during the season. This from Yahoo! Sports:
Jan 17 F Boris Diaw could be traded soon. The
CavaliersBobcats have no problem dealing him at this point, but working out something that would clearly be an improvement to just letting his contract expire at the end of this season is no given. Diaw makes $9 million this season and then becomes an unrestricted free agent. Either way, Diaw will be gone, by the March trade deadline or five weeks later when the season ends. He's no longer a starter and can't be happy playing 15 minutes a night off the bench.
Fat jokes aside -- actually, go ahead with them, as planned -- he's still a solid contributor across the board. I'll leave the contract/salary logistics to those who know better than I, but if the Clippers could acquire Diaw for part of their PG depth (Bledsoe) and a future 2nd, would you be content acquiring Boris Diaw as a reserve 3-5?

can we trade Foye (expiring and unlikely to be resigned) + one of the trade exceptions?
Butler and Billups would take most of the SG minutes and Gomes/Diaw could fill in any extra SF minutes that could result.
We need Bill Walton back: "Where would the LA Clippers franchise be without Sean Rooks? Bo Outlaw might be the best pick up of the off season.

When CP3/Mo are healthy,
that may represent an improvement for us. Foye’s still a decent contributor, though, and I’d rather add to our playable assets than shift them around. In particular, Foye’s a good shooter from deep, and our bench depth in that role would be reduced to basically just Mo (and Cook if he ever regains his outside shot) if we made this deal.
Unfortunately, I haven’t had the time to go through the new CBA rules and examine it in the context of the Clippers this season, as I would have in seasons past. Someone else will have to comment on whether or not the salaries, with the exception, work.
One can Dream
Diaw would be a good complement for the team. I don’t think Foye and scraps is enough to get him. It’s not time to get rid of Bledsoe. He’s young, cheap talent.

I like Diaw off the bench
Mo + Diaw + Reggie is a very solid bench, I think.

not sure how you get salaries to match
Don’t think you can combine the TPE and players in a trade (unless it’s changed since the last CBA). I guess Gomes and Foye would be close, but then you’d really be left with no back up 3, and I’m not sure why the bobcats do that. Maybe Gomes, Foye, Mo, for Diaw and Maggette? Might have to throw some 2nd rounders in there, since really none of those peices help them rebuild. Would be an interesting reunion, but Maggette would definitely give some offense of the bench. I know right now it’d be tough to trade Mo after his last game, and with CP3 out, but hopefully everyone including Bled gets back healthy and there would be a glut of PGs again.
When I heard the Bobcats were shopping him
I tried to come up with plausible trade offers for him but there really aren’t any viable ones. Foye and Gomes would be it but the Bobcats would end up with Gomes deal for one more year which doesn’t make sense with their financial model.

yeah, they're not taking on more yrs...only expiring we have is Foye and trade exceptions...
if they can’t combine, then it doesn’t work…unless we have actual assets they want, in which case I’m less inclined…

actually this works according to the Trade Machine
Cook, Leslie and Foye for Diaw.
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=7z4szfq
I don’t see the Clips doing this though, they would have to pay the prorated amount of the $4million difference of Diaw’s contract and the Clipper players.

Love to get Diaw

I would be willing to give up
Foye + 2nd round picks + Brian Cook + Bledsoe + Gomes for Diaw + Gerald Henderson + 1st round pick
they're not giving up Henderson or Picks for our garbage

I'd be willing to as well
ROFL. Yea because they want to give up a decent starter (Henderson) and their lottery pick for our garbage plus Bledsoe. Oh and pay for the last year of Gomes’ deal.

Actually on further review
Henderson’s not a decent starter. They still wouldn’t do it because of Gomes’ contract and giving up a lottery pick isn’t plausible.

look at his play this year.
he’s a decent starter
They already have Kemba and Augustine
Why would they want Bledsoe?

I'm guessing they might do Mo for Boris straight up...

Would they?
Bobcats are in cost cutting mode. Would they want to bring on a Mo’s 8.5 million deal when they are seemingly trying to tank their way to more ping pong balls?

Cook, Foye, Leslie would help them do that...

Can't really say anything about Bobcats since they gave up Gerald Wallace for garbage players.
Really unpredictable on what they’ll do.
Wouldn't put anything past MJ.

Man I'd love that to happen
I always wanted the Clips to get a french palyer I could root for, plus he would really fill a lot of our needs as he can play maultiple positions.
I really love Boris, we’re from the same town and I’ve been to his camp a few years ago, make it happen Neil!

Anyone else surprised that the Lakers are supposedly the team he should go to?
Just like Deron and Dwight are suppose to go to the Lakers? I’m not surprised at all, because whenever there is a free agent, somehow, the Lakers are entitled to them for nothing…. haha, I hope he goes to the Clippers so we can prove that the Clippers are more interesting than the Lakers.
Well
For once the 16 banners argument actually means something. 16 championships = good franchise, and unlike the Clippers who have to use other things like Blakes and Griffins to attract free agents, the Lakers are attractive because they have the franchise ingredients of a contender (good ownership, good management, douchebag good fanbase, etc.).
"Failure is not fatal, but failure to change might be." - John Wooden
I don't think that past means a great team.
I agree, they have a good franchise, but that doesn’t mean that they are a great team to go to as of now. Their ownership has been going down the drain with Jim Buss (even Laker fans are sick and tired of him and it is only his first year), their “good management” isn’t as good as everyone thinks (Pau Gasol was his shining moment, and we all know that was merely luck) and their fanbase is not loyal. I think it is impressive and they have proven that they can win, but that doesn’t mean they are on their road to victory as of now. Celtics have surely proven that they can win, moreso than the Lakers, but that doesn’t mean you should join them because of that.
Oh, I totally agree, the past has nothing to do with the present
Just saying the past can be indicative of the future—-or at least players seem to feel that way. A lot of guys will trust the Lakers to make other moves to ensure they are a title contender. It’s pretty irrational, but that’s just the way it is.

this would help us become a championship contender
you know how all the championship teams always have a foreign role player. They just add an extra dimension don’t ask me how.

Great fit
For years, I thought he’d be a good fit. But we have nothing to offer. We should make a push during the off season.
