I love the final part of that LA Times Laker-Clipper playoff article
Final verdict on why the Lakerts would win a 7 game series over the Clippers: “They’ve got the rings”. Wow…where were those rings last year against the Mavs?
Re: Lakers beating the Clippers
What should we expect from a Lakers blogger? Anyways, here are a few points I saw from the blog (because really, it’s not an journalistic article at all):
- Medina said the Lakers’ scattered offense will be better off in April. Sure, it may be, but there’s no mention of Chris Paul just coming back from an injury for that game and the Clippers being much stronger in April as well.
- The Clippers can’t play under emotional control. I’m sorry, but who had more technical’s that game? And, last I remember, one team had a player kicked out of the game for getting a double technical.
- Medina loves to bask in the name of the Lakers. He makes constant reference to what players will/should perform like if the teams were to meet in the playoffs. I’d argue that that game was not a microcosm of what players like Goudelock or Artest will do the rest of the season, rather, that the game was a mirage. Artest has been sub-par all season and Goudelock, a 2nd round pick, will be lucky to drop that many points again (especially if a healthy Bledsoe were playing D on him).
- Funny that Barnes’ play gets called chippy where Blake (though not in this blog) gets called a flopper.
Anyways, this was written on the 27th, before the Clippers beat Denver in Denver and before the Lakers lost to an undersized Bucks team and almost blew an 18 point lead to the T-Wolves. How about that resolve, Medina?
I don't understand why people make so much of one game.
They lost to a Bucks team without SJax, which we easily handled. Therefore you’re better. See? I can do it too!

Did he play against us though?
I didn’t think he did… I forget.
"Failure is not fatal, but failure to change might be." - John Wooden
But for the best front court tandem in the league
That’s kind of sad not to dominate a team without their big man.
"Failure is not fatal, but failure to change might be." - John Wooden
They lost to a Bogut and Jack-less Bucks team.
Ilyasova owned Gasol, it was hilarious. I like Ersan, he really hustles out there. We should pick him up.
It's not exactly surprising in regards to the LA Times article about the Lakers > Clippers
What is one to expect? It’s the same treatment/expectation one gets from ESPN LA between the two teams. If the Clippers won the NBA title this year and the Lakers missed the playoffs, the 2 “news” sources would just release articles detailing how the Lakers are the better franchise because of what “should” be their future, and what “is” their aurora of “winning”. In a few more articles I’m sure these outlets will recycle back to articles that discuss either of the following:
1. How Kobe is the best player ever
2. How D.Howard/D.Williams/L.James/C.Paul/B.Griffin/etc. will all be lining up to join the Lakers the minute their contracts expire, regardless of contract mathematics, because being in LA (and Kobe’s tool) will make up for it
3. How the Clippers are not even close to the Lakers because of ____ reason.
I would note
It’ll probably take 3-5 years of consistent Clippers > Lakers play before there is a chance of"even" coverage of the 2 franchises. It could be comparative to the LA Angels v. the LA Dodgers in the city.
Actually Clippers coverage has come a long way with local/national media exposure
this year. Look at all the national TV games featuring the Clippers. Also ESPN 71AM (the Lakers station) talks as much about the Clippers these days as they do the Lakers. Last year they only joked about DTS yelling at Baron etc. Clippers never had their own tab like Lakers Dodger, USC etc. and you had to hit the “other” tab to read about them at the LA Times site.
While this is definitely still a Lakers town and not all the editorial writing is positive about the Clippers, we are light years farther than in the past.
