No M-V-P chants, please. Ever.
I need all Clippers fans to commit to NEVER serenading a free throw shooting Clipper with the absurdly pathetic and insufferably ass-kissing chant of M-V-P. I'm not sure who invented this atrocity, but it has spread thru the NBA like a plague over the years.
As with everything, Lakers fans do it most annoyingly. Kobe worship is disturbing for many reasons, most notably Colorado. But the Kobe/M-V-P chant is patently incomprehensible. On it's face, it fails the logic test. Kobe is nowhere close to being the MVP of the NBA, and hasn't been for years. This should be obvious. Even if he were MVP material, the chant is tired and corny. Nobody over the age of 9 should participate in such frivolity. I don't expect Lakers fans, with their lethal combination of myopia and limited basketball knowledge, to understand this. But I do expect more of Clippers fans.
So please, PLEASE, unless your name is ClipperDarrell, or you are a child under the age of 12, restrain yourselves from participating in this ridiculous schoolyard chanting, even you think that Blake Griffin or Chris Paul are actually deserving of being recognized NBA MVP. We're not in nursery school.
Thank you.

HATE the MVP chants
I will make one exception..the home opener the season following winning the award..other than that, no thanks
^^i dont mind the wave if the Clips are blowing out the other team
since this year…when we are blowing them out we dont have to worry about losing the lead
Ralph, "Last year so often with Blake Griffin you would see these things coming, with Paul, he's so crafty, all of a sudden boom there it is."

the waaaaaaahaaaaveeee
Ralph, "Last year so often with Blake Griffin you would see these things coming, with Paul, he's so crafty, all of a sudden boom there it is."
Absolutely no wave. Absolutely no MVP-chant.
These things are for idiots and children. If you’re over twelve, just say no.
Why am I supposed to like Clipper Darryl?
agreed on the "MVP" chant
though having a chant is a nice thing to have…whether it does or does not really help, fans like to think their cheering will boost their players
like a defense chant or screaming after a massive dunk/clutch 3 pointer
the free throw chant is just encouragement to make the shot….
so MVP is really easy to yell even though its stupid…..is there something else we can yell? “You-Can-DoIt”? maybe? i dont know…lol
Ralph, "Last year so often with Blake Griffin you would see these things coming, with Paul, he's so crafty, all of a sudden boom there it is."
I'm really not a fan of chanting in general
DE-FENSE is a good one. It happens during the action and does give the players something to feed off of.
C-P-3 is creative enough to not be ridiculous, unlike M-V-P.
But I can’t imagine that these players don’t roll their eyes when fans chant for them individually. I know I would.
Do not worry. (Matthew 6:27)
Really?
What about chanting don’t you like? It’s a sporting event. I’m sure Blake may find it ridiculous when he hears MVP chants for him. But there’s no doubt players like hearing their home crowd get into the game. It’s one of the important factors of playing at home.

I'm a fan of cheering
I like “Let’s go Clippers, LET’S GO!!”
The M-V-P chant is amateurish. It annoys me greatly. I think it is beneath Clippers fans to become sycophants like the Lakers are for Kobe.
Do not worry. (Matthew 6:27)
Approved Chants:
The Reggie chant is awesome after he gets a couple of offensive rebounds, “CP3” is an easy enough chant for Paul when he is at the line, “DJ” and “BG” chants would work as well, “Lets Go Clippers” simple enough, also getting the fans to do 7 nation army at some point in the game would simply amazing (like this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CGRThLyuN1U). Feel free to add on more.
"It's better to be an optimist who is sometimes wrong than a pessimist who is always right"unknown
Yeah see no problem with chants like those.
Besides, why wouldn’t you want to get your home crowd into the game. The louder the better.

i think a "Let's Go DJ" is easy to
Let’s Go Blake or Let’s Go Griffin….even “BG” doesnt really flow though IMO
Ralph, "Last year so often with Blake Griffin you would see these things coming, with Paul, he's so crafty, all of a sudden boom there it is."
though a simple "Blake!" could also work i suppose
Ralph, "Last year so often with Blake Griffin you would see these things coming, with Paul, he's so crafty, all of a sudden boom there it is."
...i have no idea why these doubled up.....
Ralph, "Last year so often with Blake Griffin you would see these things coming, with Paul, he's so crafty, all of a sudden boom there it is."
How about a slow clap while we're at it?
Do not worry. (Matthew 6:27)
i got it...other than the specific players named above
when it is any other player we can just yell “Jum-Ba-Co!”
haha…
Ralph, "Last year so often with Blake Griffin you would see these things coming, with Paul, he's so crafty, all of a sudden boom there it is."
I don't get the hate.
Blake and CP3 are both legit MVP candidates.

What hate?
Yes, both are legit MVP candidates. That doesn’t mean we should embarrass them with that disgraceful chant.
Do not worry. (Matthew 6:27)
How is it embarrasing?
I noticed Mike and Ralph saying the same thing the other day. At what point does it become acceptable? When we’re 30 and 15? When we make the playoffs? When either Blake or CP3 ACTUALLY get the League MVP?
I don’t get it; to me both are the team’s MVP in reality, so what’s the big deal?

in my opinion is very similr to common "Lakerism"
Lakerism – To continually praise and claim every award possible and say they are the best baller in the whole wide world without any real proof
just because they are candidates, doesn’t mean they are MVPs…and even if they are…there isn’t a reason to boast about it.
now if Blake decides to change his name in the off season to Metta Vancouver Peace…then hell yea, we will chant MVP because that is who he really is
Ralph, "Last year so often with Blake Griffin you would see these things coming, with Paul, he's so crafty, all of a sudden boom there it is."
I think it is fine later in the season
I remember doing MVP chants for Elton towards the end of the 05-06 season.
"It's better to be an optimist who is sometimes wrong than a pessimist who is always right"unknown
who says it's embarrasing?
Maybe you don’t like the attention are are sensitive the loads of attention. But no way athletes as big as Blake and Paul get embarrassed hearing MVP chants.

The M-V-P chanter and chantee should both be embarrased
by the awkwardness of the chant.
Plus, what happens if the guy receiving the chant misses the free throw?
“M-V-P, M-V-P.”…brick.
Do not worry. (Matthew 6:27)
I bet you sit on yours hands during games.

Look, I know logic isn't your strong suit
If you were Clippers GM we would have an injured, unextended Eric Gordon and no Chris Paul.
Lack of logic is also how you make the leap from “no MVP chants” to I must sit on my hands.
Do not worry. (Matthew 6:27)

That has happened to Blake on several occasions this season...
and it depresses me. There’s no need to emulate some of the worst fans in any sport…
So 11 year olds can do the MVP chant - got it

don't get me started on Clipper Darrell...
same tired schtick for years….get some new material. Darrell, your chanting is U G L Y…you ain’t got no alibi…it’s UGLY
That was played out in 1986 when Wildcats came out. You are copying a Goldie Hawn movie…what’s next? Some Private Benjamin jokes? A little riff from Protocol (yeah, had to look all of that up, it was worth it)
ROFL
The ugly song brought back some good memories Rubble, thanks =)

I agree 100%
It’s cheesy and it’s a total ripoff of the Lakers’ MVP chant. UGLY is much more creative and unique… let’s stick with that.
"Good young core" doesn't win ballgames. Give me a young superstar and a veteran supporting cast.
Can we get off the notion that only Laker fans chant MVP when they're superstar is at the line? Pretty sure other teams have it happen, too.

It's always bad
but it’s especially bad when Lakers fans do it for Kobe.

I hate it, but I respect it.
Kobe’s earned it.

He's a one-time MVP, years ago
Nobody in their right mind would suggest that he has been worthy of the MVP for several years.
So does winning the award once entitle a player to an M-V-P serenade for the remainder of their career?
Should Celtics fans chant MVP for Kevin Garnett? Should Spurs loyalists shower the modern version of Tim Duncan with MVP chants? Steve Nash? MVP?
Or should fans stop making fools of themselves and let the players shoot their free throws?
Do not worry. (Matthew 6:27)
This is totally false
He is probably the front runner for MVP this year.
It is most valuable player, NOT the BEST player. Rose was nowhere close to being the best player in the league last year, and Kobe isnt this year. It is all about the story of the player, and the team’s record.
Lakers record is 12-9
I’m not convinced that Kobe is occasionally a determent to his team. He is definitely NOT the MVP this year. That would be LeBron, Rose or Durant.
Do not worry. (Matthew 6:27)
LeBron is not MVP of his team, not the way Bosh has produced so far
Rose has played well, but like I said, it is all about the story, and other players on the team have stepped up a lot (Luol Deng).
I hope Durant does win MVP because he is playing great, but he has two other fantastic players on his team.
Kobe has an awful bench and 2 awful starters, an aging and inconsistent Pau Gasol, and an inconsistent and injury prone Bynum. He has absolutely carried that team.
There is no way that Kobe is a MVP candidate now
early in the season maybe, but they have been playing horribly recently. I think Lebron is the clear candidate at this point. He is putting up better numbers than Kobe with fewer shots. Although I’m sure you can’t really say Lebron is the MVP because of what he did to the Cavs.
"It's better to be an optimist who is sometimes wrong than a pessimist who is always right"unknown
I was chanting MVP for Brian Cook when he was on the line one time.
I’m ashamed.
by EJay on Jan 30, 2012 3:11 PM PST via mobile reply actions
That chant is not MVP
It is the beer drinking fans in the nose bleed section shouting “I gotta pee”
"Great Balls Of Fire, Reggie's Back!"
UGLY and JUMBACO (what do you get?) should be in every NBA arena
they are equally genius
MVP, I don’t care for, but I’m not going to stop anyone.
the MVP chants don't annoy me...
But the one thing that does is, which is becoming more standard in other NBA arenas is the standing-up until the home team scores its first basket…incredibly cheesy to me. Those hicks in OKC started that nonsense.
by Shawn H on Jan 30, 2012 7:00 PM PST via Android app reply actions
Was it a playoff game or a Clipper game when OKC didn't score for a couple of minutes?
I remember laughing because OKC was throwing up bricks for the first 3 or 4 minutes; the fans were all PO’d and waiting to sit.

I would love to see their faces =)

I believe our team used to do that
I forgot which year but we didn’t sit until we first scored. After that though, I think the NBA created some sort of rule..

Wow thats some real hate...
I never really thought that MVP chant would bug anyone much. Your kind of ruining my dream of going to Staples and chanting MVP every time Reggie Evans is at the free throw line.
'Bout Time!
I Totally agree with your post! I hate that chant! Because it is never used in reference to a real MVP or a real MVP candidate.
"Excellence...is not an act, but a habit" Aristotle
Let's start adding some new chants:
MIP!! (Most improved player)
6TH MAN! (6th man of the year)
DPOY!! (defensive player of the year)
COY!! (coach of the year)
GMOY!! (GM of the year)
ANBA1!! (All-NBA 1st team)
AD1!! (All-defense 1st team)
LOL.
But what if the Clips ever acquired a star player whose initials are “M.V.P.”?
I dunno. If “M-V-P” at home and “Beat L.A.” on the road became routine chants during Clippers games, that might be a sign of something worthwhile happening.
