Maybe instead of saying Reggie is a great rebounder.

We should say he is a great grabber

Rebounds are just on the things that he grabs

Bucks

Bucks play hard on defense, I’ll give them that. Two years ago when people were psyched about them, they were among the best defensive teams in the NBA.

Nice making shots

What a difference when shots are going in. Blake’s been great in the third, but just making jumpers is huge.

for someone that preaches defense, and actually relys on his defense to make games even close, you’d think they’d think they would be able to get stops. Maybe it was just that one play if they thought DJ was going to get ahead.

Geezus...

stop with this negativity…positive energy with this Clippers team. I think we’ll compete next week. Let the outcome speak for itself.

I said it is possible

I didn’t say it will happen. But it wouldn’t be the end of the world. This team has still a lot of gelling to do. I’ll evaluate after 20 games.

totally

we’re playing a team we already beat during the regular season, a team we beat twice during the preseason and a team we beat on our home court last season. 3-0 baby!!!

I have thought about it, but my nickname is dedicated to that awful Cavs team of 2010-2011 that I supported mainly because of what LeBron did to them.

I’m banking on those bandwagon fans to buy my Heat and Lakers tickets at an insanely marked up price.

I respect the people of this blog way too much to sell them my marked up prices.

i understand you said it's possible

obviously it is, but it’s not gonna happen because these aren’t the old Clippers. We’re going 3-0. (and if i don’t i’ll still say we’re going to win the rest of the games of the year because i think we are in a position to where we can win the rest of the games of the year).

Reggie Evans

3pts, 6rebs, 19 mins. Good numbers for his debut. Could’ve had more points if he made his FTs.

Things I felt about this game.

1) Reggie Evans was a great pickup. I now see why he is such a great rebounder; he always fights for position and his timing is excellent. He also never gives up on a single play. I hope to see a healthy Evans all year round.
2) Our defense was decent, but Jennings was just having a solid shooting night. Not to mention CP3 was just out of it tonight, even with his okay stats.
3) Our offense was what caused the “ugly” loss. We were out hustled and it seemed like we just outplayed. I think we weren’t prepared for this game, because our offensive playbook seemed pretty dry. Our terrible FT and 3PT shooting didn’t help at all.
4) The refs are BLIND. Before, I would always stand by my words “Griffin should stop complaining.” I believe that it is NEVER good to complain, but it has to be known that they are missing such blatant fouls which can easily change the game.
5) Chris Paul needs to go back to his leadership roll like last game. This game was not a strong one offensively for him, but I think his less than stellar (for him) performance will have him fighting for 3 wins in the next 3 games.

by SurfinQ00 on Jan 7, 2012 11:11 PM PST reply actions

Not to take away from your astute observations ...

But despite all that the Clippers still came away with the win. I can’t remember it off hand but there’s some cliche out there about learning how to win on your worst night. It’s what good teams do and in seasons past it felt like the Clippers had to have a perfect storm to come away with a W. Did I want to see a wire-to-wire win, absolutely, but there’s some solace in knowing that the best PG plays on my favorite team, had an off night, and still came away with a 6 point win.

For what it’s worth – Reggie is a beast.

by yaggiefresh on Jan 7, 2012 11:29 PM PST up reply actions

I agree.

No matter what you say, a win is a win. I was just giving my 2 cents with what I saw. And from what I have seen in Paul, he will be more disappointed in himself than any other player, coach, or fan. He seems to really play well after games in which he is seen to play to a lesser caliber than he usually does; and hopefully he comes to Portland looking to dominate! This stretch of three games is pretty vital for the team and it’s confidence, so let’s take 3/3!

by SurfinQ00 on Jan 7, 2012 11:39 PM PST up reply actions

Oh yeah, forgot to mention the obvious.

Judging by the word “obvious” I’m sure whoever is reading this has guessed it.
6) Cook is total trash. I don’t see why Del Negro still has any interest in playing him and not playing Jones. Cook is not only a terrible shooter (almost all of which are 3’s) but he is worse than useless on defense. All he has to do is throw up his arms and jump 10 inches to alter someones shot, but even that is too complicated for him. I believe it was near the end of the second or third, but Williams seemed to assume that someone would help him out on a Jennings drive, but when Jennings blew by, he had an almost uncontested layup which led to a Clippers time out. So please, put in Jones and make Cook a bench player so deep that he is sitting by Clipper Darrel. With Evans, you can have a pretty decent 2nd team.
Williams
Leslise/ Foye
THOMPKINS (like many of us, I have no faith in Gomes; I also think Thompkins is perfect as a 3)
Evans
Jones. Jones, who is said to be a shot blocker, can make someone like Jennings think twice about driving for a layup. Evans can then clean up missed shots with his tenacity on loose balls ;). I think Leslie would be a solid defender, and I think Thompkins has the height and qualities of a SF.

group of mexicans start arguing with a white guy about 4 rows above them

one of the mexican guys goes up with his friend trying to hold him back
his friends are all up there and the aisle person in purple head over there to try and break it up
he lunged at the white guy and started beating the snot out of him

by JackduhSun on Jan 7, 2012 11:36 PM PST up reply actions

Possibly any alcohol involved?

I don’t want to be stereotypical or racist, but Mexican fans are known to get somewhat rowdy at sporting events. Yet again, not trying to bring in race, but I see that as a possible factor.

by SurfinQ00 on Jan 7, 2012 11:41 PM PST up reply actions

Hispanic/Latino sports fans in LA are generally very passionate

But regardless of race, alcohol can fuel this passion into violent behavior.

As someone who lives in a predominantly hispanic neighborhood ive seen some rough brawls at local bars over games, the worst being an Angels Dodgers game a few years ago that resulted in a gun drawn ( thankfully no one was shot). As a Clipper fan its not easy to go to a bar that caters to local Laker faithful and ask to turn on a Clipper game. I went to said bar for the first Clipper/Laker preseason game this year with a friend wearing a Clipper jersey and the doorman said ’you’re a brave man for wearing that in here.’ Not that he really meant it, but with the Clippers gaining so much attention as a legit threat to the Lakers status as ‘best team in La’, i wonder if this year there could be more violent incidents of Clipper/Laker fan clashes. Lets hope we can all co-exist in peace.

by cassellmania on Jan 8, 2012 1:24 AM PST up reply actions

It's certainly rough

I was at a Giants – Dodgers game in SF a few years back and a Dodgers fan started to shout racial slurs at me all because we were talking about Fernando Valuenzela and his great nickname of “El Sombrero.” My sister’s fiancee and I almost got in a fight with that dude on the outfield boardwalk. All for what, talking about El Sombrero?

Being in the minority in LA gets a bit interesting at times.

by yaggiefresh on Jan 8, 2012 1:27 AM PST up reply actions

I didnt hear exactly what they were arguing about, but from what I saw I'd fault the white guy.

The mexican guys were trying to hold their friend back and the white guy kept talking. a few people in each camp tried to break them up when he got up there, then he went at him
neither were particularly rowdy or drunk during the game at least from what i saw. if he was drunk he navigated climbing the seats pretty well

it was in my eyes

he basically clotheslines him. It wasn’t intentional, you could see that from Sanders reaction.

by BelgianClipper on Jan 7, 2012 11:33 PM PST up reply actions

That doesn't cut it for me

that’s the kind of fouls that can injure players. Intention is always difficult to gauge. You’d see because of Sanders reaction, but in then end lots of flagrant fouls are called for these fouls.

I dont know..

I need want to rewatch the foul again. Just because a player falls to the floor shouldn’t always be a foul. Sometimes its just because the player is in the air and any motion would cause a player to drop.

I disagree

Somethjing like this should be a flagrant: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RdWF3luMGKI

(Not sure about flagrant 2, but flagrant 1.) I doubt Harris’s foul was intentional.

Aw Joey Crawford, how you shouldn't be a ref...

Joey often blows the whistle and because he, just like all the other refs, would never say, oops my bad, he makes a stupid call, which in that case was a crucial one. Not to mention he hates laughter ;)

by SurfinQ00 on Jan 7, 2012 11:48 PM PST up reply actions

Refs let the BUCKS play.

Can’t say the same about the Clippers. I will be the first to say that I hate Griffin’s constant complaining, but there were some no calls in this which should be brought to the referee’s attention. Did you see Paul talking to the refs after the game? I’m not 100% sure, but it seemed like he was talking to them about fouls. I’m fine with letting teams play, I actually like it, but you gotta be fair. Regarding the flagrant foul, I thought it was a flagrant simply because you don’t go for a player mid jump unless you have the chance to get a block. Frankly, I didn’t see any way that Saunders was going to get a clean block, so he should have let him be. Block in mid jump is a big no no, because it is just a bad fall waiting to happen.

by SurfinQ00 on Jan 7, 2012 11:46 PM PST up reply actions

Yeah, Griffin’s complaining is annoying. But it seemed like he was trying to tone it down in this game. I don’t think Saunder’s foul was a flagrant. He was not being malicious. Just a terrible foul. Fortunately no one got hurt.

by tenkaistar on Jan 8, 2012 2:02 AM PST up reply actions

Yeah, I don't like it, but it is like the refs are asking for it now.

And I didn’t think it was a malicious foul, but he has to learn that you CAN’T hit someone in air.

by SurfinQ00 on Jan 8, 2012 1:23 PM PST up reply actions

I think

Its flagrant if the player is in the air and u pull him back like that cuz he can fall very hard and get an injury more serious than if his fit were still on the ground
