Clippers Leaving Marks in History

USA TODAY Sports

We all know that the Clippers have been playing like the best team in the nation, but just how good are they in a historical context?

The Clippers are the best team in the Paific Division. They furthermore have been the best team in the Western Conference, and the best team in the NBA.

So, what's the measuring stick here? Let's take a look at some of the records that the Clippers are tying and breaking during this historic streak.

Winning Streak: The Clippers current 15-game winning streak sets a new franchise record. The previous record was 11 games by the 1974-1975 Buffalo Braves. No other team has had a longer winning streak this season, and no other team has won 15 games in a row since the Boston Celtics won 19 in a row early in the 2008-2009 season.

Road Winning Streak: The Clippers have won six consecutive road games, setting a new franchise record.

Start To The Season: The Clippers hold the #1 record in the NBA 29 games into the season. This is the first time in franchise history that the Clippers have held the top spot in the league more than 15 games into the season. Their current 23-6 record is good for the best start in franchise history, and they are the fastest team in franchise history to 23 wins, having needed 29 games to get there. The previous record was the '74-'75 Braves, who took 37 games to get to 23 wins.

A December to Remember: The Clippers are 14-0 in the month of December. The previous franchise record for wins in a month was 12, set by the '74-'75 Braves and tied by the '91-'92 Clippers. In 1975, the Clippers went 10-6 in December, the previous franchise best for the final month of the year. If the Clippers can win their next two games, they will be the third team in NBA history to Complete a 16-0 month, joining the '95-'96 Spurs and the '71-'72 Lakers.

Crushing Celtics: Yesterday's 29 point victory marked the largest win ever by the Clippers franchise over the Celtics franchise. The 29 point loss is also the third most lopsided defeat for the Celtics in the Kevin Garnett era.

Killing The Kings: The Clippers' 35 point victory over the Sacramento Kings on December 1st was the largest margin of victory in Clippers history. The franchise record is 37, achieved twice by the Buffalo Braves.

Point Differential: Not only do the Clippers have the best point differential in the NBA at +10.3, they are on pace to become just the fourth team (along with the '69-'71 Bucks, '93-'95 Mavericks, and '03-'05 Heat) in NBA history to improve their point differential by 5 or more points for two straight seasons. Last year, the Clippers had a differential of +2.56, the year before they were -3.13. The total +13.43 improvement over 2 years is the second largest in league history, behind the '69-'71 Bucks, who improved by 17.4 over the course of two seasons.
