Come on Durant. Stop hating. If it wasn't a dunk then why did the whole world Twitted about it? It was an amazing play.

I swear, the Clippers are doing a lot of great things for the franchise, but people still love to criticized us. I hope it's feeding motivation to all the players.

Keep hating Durant, we'll see OKC in Western Conference Finals!

I see nothing wrong and respect what he said.

He is a competitor. He even stated he may give it props if it was not against his own team.
He is also still protecting a teammate who was embarrassed by a play that “blew up” nationally across all venues of media.
The NBA would be a much better league if players had the same drive and humble demeanor as KD. There are not a better ambassadors in the league than players like KD and CP3. Do not misunderstand their competitive nature as a diss to others.

I have noticed we seem very concerned with what other fans/blogs/players are saying about us lately. IT IS BECAUSE WE ARE WINNING AND RELEVANT! Enjoy the ride which is the first time for most Clips fans.

this

KD isn’t going to praise something that happened to his team, to his guy Perk. Nothing more than that.

Here’s the thing about the Blake criticism out there. The guy is starting in the All Star game as a second year player. There is more love for Blake across the country than there has been for any player since Kobe Bryant probably. Did KD start in the ASG in his second year? No, he didn’t even make it. Did Derrick Rose start in the ASG in his second year? No.

With that adoration and attention, there’s going to be a backlash. And the critics feel like they have to be really loud to be heard above the adoring masses.

It’s what happens.

I was pretty young and without the internet I wasn't really aware the national fanbase

But was there a lot of Jordan-hating back in the 90’s?

I only remember the commercials and public media praising him, but the media loves Blake too. All the haterade is hidden between the lines.

I remember hating Jordan in the 90s. I was a Laker fan at the time.

I also really hated Malone and Reggie Miller. I have a lot of respect for those players now, but when your team is competing against there’s it tough to like them. I also feel like my hatred of Kobe has been waning as the years progress and my LeBron hate will probably do the same as he becomes less relevant. It’s just one of those things that happens.

Kobe hatred waning

Me too… but oddly, my Fisher hatred has been rising.

I'm kind of wishing he'd get a coaching gig already and fail.

It’s kind of mean, yeah. I think he’s a good guy outside the court, but very overrated on the court. He’s more like a team mascot than a shrewd basketball mind. He may still end up being a good coach though. Billups and Paul would make great coaches though.

I agree with both Steve and PV

It shows that he’s a competitor and he stuck up for his teammate on this one. I don’t see anything wrong with this.

To call it a "lay-up"

Please. He could have protected Perkins by saying, “I have to give it up to Perkins for not stop playing the ball, great play by Blake.” Durant dunk on Haywood last year was similar. His fingers just brushed the rim.

by Hengtime81 on Feb 1, 2012 2:45 PM PST up reply actions

"Lay-up" implies that you lay the ball up to the rim.

So what, it’s a “lay-down”?

I don't think he's hating...

His team was just on the wrong end of the play. If I scored as many points as he did that night and my team (best in the conference) still lost I’d be pretty upset. I think it just shows how competitive he is.

by EJay on Feb 1, 2012 1:47 PM PST via mobile reply actions

I understand his reluctance to say anything positive about the dunk

but he kind of rubbed me in the wrong way was his total reluctance to even acknowledge that the Clippers were now a good team.

by lovinglosangeles on Feb 1, 2012 1:59 PM PST reply actions

His team just got blown out and they wanted to ask him about opposing player's dunk on your teammate.

That would be rubbing any player the wrong way. I wouldn’t expect him to say “Yeah, Blake totally obliterated my teammate. He’s awesome!”

I can see why he is upset and answered the way he did. If the game was more competitive, I bet he would have given a different interview.

It's a dunk.

A dunk is downward shot into the basket. Lay-ups are thrown up. How can you throw down a lay-up?

Durant had a similar “”http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LX97JXD0Uv0" >dunk" in the playoffs last year.

It’s cool to defend your teammate and everything, but you really silly when you come up with these lame excuses like Durant did in this game. Calling this a dunk and then saying that he didn’t run away from being in a poster himself is ridiculous.

I like Durant, but I have felt for awhile that his whole humble shtick is fake.

Well that didn't go well. SMH

Durant had a similar “dunk” in the playoffs last year.

Not as good as Blake's

Good, but not quite. Durant’s glare afterwards is a little self-serving … definitely less humble than Blake. He also has LESS contact with the rim than Blake, so he’d have to call his own shot a lay-up too. The guy needs to wear some grown-up pants I think.

Thank You!

I agree. There are many ways to protect your teammate, but to downplay an amazing play. At least give Blake some props. And that dunk is similar and for all I know, Blake’s fingers touched more of the rim than Durant.

Down playing the dunk to protect his teammates was one thing

but to bring up a dunk he did 7-8 months ago, now I believe he’s also looking out for himself.

when you hear the Clippers, it’s not going to be a joke anymore. I can guarantee you that -BG32
