I know some of the guys here don't like him. I personally totally would love to have him on the team (espcially after tonight's ryan gomes playing like crap starting for caron experience).

but on the other hand, when was the last time you saw a player openly campaigning to play for the clippers!!!

You see his most recent game?

60 points and 14-18 from 3! And he comes off the bench? Who the hell starts in front of him, Jordan?

by yaggiefresh on Feb 1, 2012 11:17 PM PST reply actions

I have a feeling we'll be picking up either him or KMart

It really seems that both guys want to play with us. We have 1 roster spot open. I asked Isaac on Clippertalk what he thought of the two. He didn’t have an opinion on Smith, but he seemed really positive speaking about Martin. Either would make the bench much better.

Solomon Jones is an unguaranteed contract.

After the way he has been playing, I’m pretty sure he is getting cut. Especially if KMart comes here. We could clear him out and then try to get JR.

by SurfinQ00 on Feb 2, 2012 12:15 AM PST up reply actions

I heard you ask and he had zilch to say about jr and went straight to martin

Yeah. He did.

Martin is a much better fit for the team since he relieves the bigs, and Isaac pretty much summed up all our thoughts on him. I thought he’d have at least SOMETHING to say about JR, but I guess not. ha.

They are completely different players.

Benches can’t only consist of 1 player if you plan to win in the playoffs. Yes, Mo is a GREAT guy off the bench, but Foye/Gomes are way to unreliable on offense and on defense. Smith would bring a bigger Guard/Forward coming off the bench, and that is something Mo just can’t do. You saw when the bigger Hayward (pretty sure that is his name) was on him, Mo was quite ineffective!

by SurfinQ00 on Feb 2, 2012 12:14 AM PST up reply actions

Just imagine Smith getting Foye's minutes...

Mo, Smith, Reggie + 2 losers = SUPER solid bench.

I don't like their attitudes either.

But I think Billups would be able to contain them to some extent. Not to mention, they wouldn’t receive big contracts, so it wouldn’t hurt us if we signed them, they didn’t work out, and then they left.

by SurfinQ00 on Feb 2, 2012 12:16 AM PST up reply actions

He would be amazing!

He would be exactly what we need! He can shoot. He’s got size (6’ 7’) to play the SF position. He can defend…

Especially for the low salary.

PS

F#ck Josh Childress.

Ryan Gomes literally disgusts me.

21 minutes and all he manages is 1 steal and 3 fouls. Tell me, is there another team in the League where someone that records DNP CD’s is thrust into the starting lineup out of desperation?

We have no back up SF. Cut Jones, sign Smith AND K-Mart, and then give all of Randy’s and some of Foye’s minutes to Smith.

And then Amnesty Gomes with extreme vengeance next summer.

Kthxbye.

we all know how talented he is but there is a reason why there are no rumors that any team is interested in him after his contract is up. this guy is all about himself and definitely not a team player. this guy is like a less talented kobe. at least in revent years, kobe seeme to have matured, cant say the same with this guy.

You guys are the same idiots that wanted Josh Childress for 5 years $30 million...

… and cried when he went to the SUNS. I’m sorry if you can’t make it an an uptempo offense like the Suns or NY you aint making it anywhere.

JR Smith would basically replace Ryan Gomes. He’s bigger then you may think. He’s 6’7".

Actually until recently he hasn't been playing at all

and then he plays and puts up better numbers than who the Suns have been playing. Alvin Gentry is going to get himself fired pretty soon, it took him awhile to play Gortat over Lopez as well.

Right, JChill is dope

The Suns are just stupid. He’s worth the $30M that we would have spent on him killing our cap space.

Of course he was an amnesty candidate thisyear.

They actually are pretty stupid

Why pay a guy so much and never play him? It’s got to be something off the stat sheet, but then even my cousin, who is a Suns fan, said that the likes Childress and doesn’t know why they don’t play him more. Bad attitude maybe? They’re losing so much, there’s no reason not to play a guy you’re paying a fortune to…

Josh Childress got paid that much because his ex manager is now the GM.

He had phoenix’s ear. Lon Babby did the same thing with Turkoglu when he got hired. Turks trade kicker kicked in when he came to Phoenix and again when he went orlando.

You guys were kind of delusional to the situation.

Childress was getting basically $10 r $11 million a year after taxes in comparison to US currency to play in Greece. You guys were not only trying to sell the idea, but were delusional saying things “WE CAN GET HIM FOR $4 MILLION A YEAR!”

I love chris Paul.

Ricky Davis was a smiling, happy-go-lucky kind of nuts. This guy is a manslaughterer who doesn’t give a crap who he hurts. It’s about way more than team chemistry or any of that BS. JR Smith belongs in jail, not on a basketball court wearing “Clippers” across his chest.

2 days before the red white and blue tweet,

JR tweeted:
I wonder what it’s like to play on broadway? #hmmmmm!
Someone also asked him to come help out Melo and he wrote back: Maybe. I don’t know if I’d really say he’s campaigning to be on the Clips, but the thought is on his mind. I think if we go after him all depends on Chauncey and CP3 who have both played with him (CP3 and JR were on the Hornets CP3’s rookie year, and Chauncey and JR on the Nuggets, obvi).

I don’t think either Kenyon or JR are people I would say are “quality character” guys but that is based on rumors and reports of the past. Chauncey is trying to recruit Kenyon so I’m all game for Kenyon cause I trust Chauncey’s desire to win. If and when JR becomes available and Chauncey and CP3 try to recruit him, then I’m game for him too. If we keep piling on these wins against the top teams, who wouldn’t want to join us?

by chrisd on Feb 2, 2012 1:13 AM PST reply actions

i’d definitely rather have kenyon martin.

i mean in the end, we could offer kenyon the 2.5 Million dollar spot, and offer jr smith veterans minimum.

if he doesnt take it, there wil lprobably be guys released by contenders, or keith bogans or even an al thornton etc…

I'm not exactly sure how I feel about Smith.

He’s extremely talented, but has been a knucklehead. I would definitely add Martin over him, because we need a legit big man that can play defense behind DJ. Martin brings that and is another veteran leader that has something positive to give to our young big men.

One thing that bothers me about Smith is the most recent incident between his GF, sister and fans. It would suck to be in the playoffs and there’s an altercation/distraction taking place in the crowd.

Aside from what could go wrong, having both of them could make us a championship team this season.

CP3 / Mo
Chauncey / Foye
Butler / Smith
Blake / Evans
DJ / Martin

Leslie, Thompkins, Cook, Gomes & Bledsoe can watch and learn.

We would have one of the best/deepest rotations in the league. We’d have 6 threats from the perimeter and be able to always have a quality line-up in the game. Martin would be able to make opposing front court players (e.g. Gasol, Aldridge, Jefferson, etc.) work harder for their points. We could throw all kinds of different line-ups out at our opponents.

If both would be committed to buying into this team, then I seriously think we could win it all. I’d like our chances against everyone in the west. I think that we would give Miami and Chicago serious problems as well. The positives could easily outweigh the negatives in my mind.

My worry would be giving everyone enough minutes.

With the contracts we would be offering.

They should know that they won’t get tons of minutes. Evans is a great person off the bench and he doesn’t seem upset when he doesn’t get stellar minutes. Martin and Smith may have a bit more attitude, but when you sign for 2.5 and below, you shouldn’t expect to get that much playing time. Then again, I think they WOULD get a lot of playing time (probably a lot more during the normal season) because then VDN could actually trust his bench and not play his starters for super long minutes.

by SurfinQ00 on Feb 2, 2012 8:28 AM PST up reply actions

They'd get minutes

VDN can finally let his starters rest more against the sub .500 teams.

Outside shots are nice.....

But;
We are going to falter in the play offs without some added inside game. we’ve only got Blake who has an extremely limited lowpost game.

Shooter teams fall by the wayside come playoffs.
