Yes today-no word on why and where

"Success only comes before work inside of a dictionary!"

by Clipperoo on Feb 11, 2012 5:25 PM PST up reply actions

I actually feel bad for the Bobcats

And Biyombo and Kemba. They are gonna be stuck on an awful team for a long time.

by NewCavsfan on Feb 11, 2012 5:18 PM PST reply actions

I dont think he will be drafted number 1

I think they go for Sullinger, if they have No.1 overall.

by NewCavsfan on Feb 11, 2012 5:20 PM PST up reply actions

Why not

They need a big man who can actually score.

by NewCavsfan on Feb 11, 2012 5:22 PM PST up reply actions

sullinger will not be #1

he will be 5-10 range… lots of good bigs

by LJ Hann on Feb 11, 2012 5:23 PM PST up reply actions

Yeah

My favorite player actually might be Michael Kidd Gilchrist.

by NewCavsfan on Feb 11, 2012 5:24 PM PST up reply actions

I have

Drummond, Davis, Barnes, Kidd-Gilchrist, Robinson, Zeller all above Sullinger. Beal looks like a good pick also. Gordon 2.0

by LJ Hann on Feb 11, 2012 5:27 PM PST up reply actions

That is true

I dont think Drummond will be great personally. Davis could be a superstar, as could Barnes.

they traded Chandler and Crash

for Maggs … brilliance…

someone send a memo to MJ: it doesn’t matter that you change the system if your FO just plainly sucks…

Dying is natural. We can’t all expect to live for ever. Plus many people are making a living due the Clippers newfound success.

did you go to public high school?

I mean, I have 7 hours of school a day + 2-5 hours of hw a night. And the vast majorities of my teachers are simpletons. My math teacher spells ’you’re’ like ‘ur’…

My english teacher has an art degree and just uses the other teachers’ lesson plans- without knowing what she is talking about.

And these are the ‘best’ teachers, teaching advanced classes.

by LJ Hann on Feb 11, 2012 6:40 PM PST up reply actions

I'm a sophomore

but my senior year I’m taking AP Stats and AP Enviornmental Sciences. Stats is easy, and APES is only one semester.

I've had some good teachers

and some terrible ones.

the teachers in their 30’s and 40’s seem to be the best. Know their stuff but also have teaching experience.

public high school in Belgium is quite good quality

no private schools as you Americans know them

basically in california

there is no education money, so public school techers make nothing. All the good teachers get offered, and accept, higher salaries to teach at private schools.

you have some drain here in Belgium to

also, don't know if it is like this in Belgium

but once a teacher gets tenure here, it’s over. They are going to suck for decades. My biology teacher last year was in his early 80’s, and he had been teaching at the same school for 40 some years. He had origanally been a coach, but once he got enure he quit his coaching job and only taught. He was teaching the same day-to-day curriculum as he had for decades, and his lectures (also carried over) were frequently false.

by LJ Hann on Feb 11, 2012 6:53 PM PST up reply actions

tenure is a problem here too

but most teachers will retire at 60 and they are forced to retire at 65

by BelgianClipper on Feb 11, 2012 6:54 PM PST up reply actions

they should be allowed to

fire a teacher once he stops doing his job.

I don’t know if you have heard about it overseas, but in Socal there was an elementary school teacher who had been locking his classroom door and forcing his students to do obscene things which I will not repeat on here. Because he has tenure, they can’t fire him. So he gets payed to sit in a room until he gets convicted and put in jail.

by LJ Hann on Feb 11, 2012 6:57 PM PST up reply actions

same here

we had a guy who killed 3 people and they had to keep paying him until he got convicted.

but as a civil servant (non education) you can get something like
Which I have but we also have quite a few colleagues (especially older people) who are basically dead weight. The younger generation has a more productive mindset.

I partially believe that

some older people would work harder and be more effective if they did not have tenure, and had to work to keep their jobs.

by LJ Hann on Feb 11, 2012 7:03 PM PST up reply actions

The flip side is that they would

always be fired as companies replaced them with younger, fresher workers.

by LJ Hann on Feb 11, 2012 7:04 PM PST up reply actions

well the older generation is more of the

“I get a job as a civil servant and I’m set for live” whilst my generation is more sensitive about job content and such…

Yes, absolutely nothing is worse...

than a horrible teacher in an AP or honors class. That teacher is obviously only relegated to your school, and ruins the entire class’ grades with their teaching, yet every student in the class is still competing for college placement with people who were taught better or benefited from grade inflation in the same class.

it's a real pain here

all the standardized testing basically makes each student a set of numbers. Only the top colleges (columbia, harvard, stanford) actually look at individuals. Halfway through my sophomore year dozens of colleges have contacted me trying to get their names in.

Anyone here can go to community colleges to earn a 2-year associates degree, but yoy have to apply for a 4-year college.

by LJ Hann on Feb 11, 2012 6:55 PM PST up reply actions

no standardized testing here

I actually work in education (not teaching but the administration/financial side) and would welcome standardized testing

It is good to an extent

But I know alot of people who are smart and not good at those tests. My class rank is around 100th, but I finished in the top 5 in every standardized test last year.

it would be a bench mark

lot of schools here cherry pick students. Which results in a bad reputation for the few schools that don’t and get all the “difficult” students. Bench marking would allow those school to showcase their added value.

California has a 'star' test

that is essentially a benchmark. It goes all the way down to 3rd grade I believe. Public schools recieve more funding if they can get higher star test scores.

we have a math teacher at my school

I passed his class last year, but during fall semester this year he failed 80-some freshmen. He has also been in trouble severl times for making innapropriate jokes. He has called female athletes ‘all lesbians’ in class, told a jewish kid he would ‘send him to the gas chambers’, and other terrible things.
