I mean how easy can you win a game on the road and still get this kind of bullshit

i think that sentence just made the article flow better, but really had no relevance whatsoever. These are writers and not fans or players when it comes down to it.

that's the beef I have with Clipperblog

they present themselves as a fan blog but essentially these probably are lowly paid writers working their way up the food chain. My guess is that in the past it was bit easier to get a gig as a clipperblog writer then some of the other more popular teams blogs. But I’m not really convinced that they truly root for our Clips, but merely see it as an opportunity to advertise their writings.

True,

In a way, I’m not TOO upset about that. I don’t want to read too much homerism. Likewise, I don’t want to read Lakers-fans writing for the blog. If they stay neutral for the most part, I won’t mind it.

I agree

It seems more like a pathway to bigger and better things at ESPN.

I would agree with you

If I didn’t know for a fact that DJ Foster (the writer of this edition of grades) was most definitely a clipper fan first and foremost. I have no idea why clipperblog tends to be so negative.

I don't know everybody at Clipperblog. But I've corresponded with them a bit.

They’re good guys and they’re Clipper fans. It’s a little different over there, more about the features and less about the dialogue.
But I don’t understand, did you think the Clippers should get A-marks for tonight’s game? Clips played fine but the opposition was SO slack….

not A marks

the marks doesn’t matter. But comments on themselves: why the harping on Blake who did play a decent game or the beef with the coaching… . A bit more homerism would be nice.

I usually like DJ Foster's writing but his Lob City Ledger has been a joke

He doesn’t include key players that made a difference in the game (like Mo Williams yesterday scoring 12pt to mount a comeback). He doesn’t grade consistently (a blowout game like this should have everyone getting As, and you shouldn’t expect to see As in a loss).

As bad as this piece is the worst was the ClipperBlog recap of the Philly game. After an amazing comeback victory, Nick Flynt can’t find a single nice thing to say.

Again, I think you guys are expecting these guys to be super happy after every game

I can’t find anything untruthful about what Flynt said. Its better analysis than sugar-coating a shitty game (and final 30 seconds in particular) that got saved by Reggie Evans and Chris Paul coming up huge.

Truthful, yes

But you can always find something positive to write about. I could speak only the truth about any game and make it sound really negative. Likewise, I could speak only the truth about the same game and make it sound really positive. Writers are making a choice here, picking and choosing what to be truthful about and what to omit entirely.

(I’m not speaking about any one piece in particular, just about writing in general and the subjectivity of it all.)

Well...

I stopped reading Clipperblog when the writing changed, probably because they’re affiliated with ESPN. And I don’t know if you guys noticed, no one really comments on any of their articles.

The comment section on clipperblog is horrendous

Me too,,,

Which is why I was disappointed when there were new writers at Clips nation. I like having a consistent voice to a blog, but I think it’s worked out well here. Clipperblog just changed everything and KA never writes anymore. Their audio recaps are kind of strange too, it is a BLOG right?

Me too!

So much, actually. It was almost even with CN for me at the time. I thought, “This Steve guy writes pretty well, and so does this Kevin guy. Steve’s writing is usually more interesting because he goes on fun tangents every once in a while, but Kevin also has really great insight about the game and always sounds well-researched. Plus, they both use impeccable spelling and grammar, and that’s awesome.”

Now, as CN adds more writers who have their own styles and methods, and still continue to use correct spelling/grammar, I watch CB just go downhill. I cannot stress how annoying it is to have 4 run-on sentences in a row—-you can’t just keep saying “and” and “but” until you’re done talking. Then there’s the aforementioned negativity (which honestly isn’t that bad) it’s just that when it’s combined with poor writing, my OCD takes hold, and I can’t take it anymore.

(Side note: When I commented about the run-ons, one of the writers replied that some important writer said never to use semicolons. I’m pretty sure that writer didn’t mean to use run-ons instead. NERD-RAGE.)

Semicolons

The advice never to use them is bullshit; sometimes they’re quite appropriate.
