Anyone have a video of DJ's jumper?
Hey guys! Unfortunately I'm at school away from Los Angeles and wasn't able to catch the game today, but I heard something crazy happened! Are the rumors true that Deandre scored a basket outside of the paint!?
I feel like this is something that won't happen again for a long time, and I definitely want to see a video of it. If anyone has a clip of it, please share it with this poor clippers fan who isn't able to watch his favorite team live anymore.

Thanks for finding that! DJ is hilarious.
I was probably driving when that happened and I’m glad I got to see it.

DJ on the post
I don’t understand why the team doesn’t give DJ a chance to post up at least 3-4 times a game. I understand his offensive skills aren’t up to par w/ the rest of the starters, but I’m sure DJ knows some simple post moves like a basic hook shot or a dropstep. Even if he doesn’t convert, it will give him confidence that his teammates/coaches trust him w/ the ball. He has superior footspeed over most guys who guard him. Also, it will motivate him to work even harder than he already is on D.
Sucks to see him post up and put his hand up asking for the ball and be ignored by the teammate w/ the ball…then watch him put his head down.

When you have Caron, CP3, and Foye on the court
There is no reason to give DJ a jumper. True, I would like to see him establish some sort of game outside the post, but you don’t play around like that and lose possessions in a game unless it is a blow out like this. Every possession matters, so I would hate to see it wasted just because it might tip over several dominoes, which personally, I don’t think it would. If he started shooting more, he would start missing more, and THAT would most likely lead to him doing post moves like he does now. Then what situation are we in? We have a couple less possessions with the same DJ.
I agree with you
That there is no reason to give DJ a jumper although I think he can hit them more often that we think from 15ft & in…But ya, no jumpers for DJ for now.
What I clearly said was working DJ in (ok I used the word ‘on’) the post. Just 3-4 times for now. Especially if there’s a switch and DJ’s got a pg guarding him. He knows basic post moves and he’s got an ok touch w/ the hook (w/ both hands) from 5 feet & in at the post. And if he missed, you know DJ is going after the miss for a put back. I know he won’t always get the put back, but we all can see that scenario having watched how DJ plays.
It’s not like we have a great possession every time down, so why not try DJ 3-4 times a game.

Here is my only issue with that.
DJ has bad hands. I honestly don’t think that is something you teach; you are either a butter fingers or you can catch the ball. DJ drops the ball quite often, and if he were to establish some spin move or something, then people would start swiping the ball away from him. I think we can possibly throw it down there when Blake is gassed and CP3 isn’t in, but yet again, DJ isn’t a scorer and we shouldn’t expect him to be one.
When we're up big, we can do this
But when we’re up big, we don’t want to risk our starters getting hurt, so DJ sits. It’s a tough spot. I’ve seen DJ do some pretty nice post moves before, but they are just flashes. He has a pretty good one where he takes a huge stride and moves quickly laterally, but when he does the hook he lays it really softly off his fingers and into the hoop. Seen that one like… 3 times in my life.
"Failure is not fatal, but failure to change might be." - John Wooden
the missing piece
Anyone remember DJ’s finger roll from the free throw line? He’s got the ability to contribute and it should be a focal point from the coaching staff, since if we go deep in the playoffs the better teams are gonna find ways to stop blake and paul. No one would see DJ coming and that’s why it needs to be worked on. He can elevate and is quick, he could get a pass from paul around 10 ft out and face up and throw a floater like kmart does. Maybe now that we have some savvy vets they can show him a few quick reliable moves. DJ should be soaking up all the knowledge he can and expanding his game if we want to win on a higher level.

a teammate most likely told him to shoot
Because the shot clock was down to 2 seconds.

Shot clock
He took a 15 footer a game or so back also, with the clock winding down. It happens. But the truth is, DJ needs to continue to work on a 15 footer, and he should probably take one or two a game at some point. Hell, Kendrick Perkins takes them and he’s much worse than DJ.

looked it up
Perkins is 1 for 13 from 16 to 23 feet this season.

DJ's got a decent shooting form
Joakim Noah hits ‘em at an acceptable rate when he’s open. DJ can achieve Noah’s level. His form is already better than Noah’s.

No
DJ does not have a decent shooting form; he doesn’t even look comfortable shooting it. He doesn’t look good at the line, and he won’t look good away from 2 feet.
Plus, form isn’t everything sometimes. Shawn Marion’s stroke is probably the most ugly stroke I’ve ever seen but it still miraculously goes in.
"Things change when something is taken away from you" -BG32
From 2 feet he's just gonna dunk it instead
I agree form isn’t everything sometimes but it helps. Shawn Marion is more an exception to the rule. He’s obviously gotten comfortable w/ the way he shoots. If you look at the best shooters in the game now, they all have technically sound shooting motions.
DJ does have a decent shooting form. Him looking uncomfortable shooting at the line is more of a confidence issue rather than a shooting form issue. I don’t expect DJ to ever be the mid-range shooter David West is, but something similar to Noah is attainable for him in 2 years time.

15 footers?
Why? Baby steps. Let’s get the guy knocking down 2-3 footers first before we expand to double digits territory.
he can dunk from 2-3 feet
his baby step is 5-6 feet.

i hope he does
hes got a high release and good arc. he just needs reptition and confidence. i would like to see him take one or two a game. it wont be pretty at first but you gotta crawl before you ball.

saw film of DJ this summer working out
saw him make 2 17 foot jumpers. they looked very comfortable. he has much better shooting form than Perkins or Noah. No jumpers yet. But gosh we need another low post presence. He can be really effective down low if they coaches gave him a chance. Hell all his post moves would end in dunks. like Shaqs used to.
