Ryan Gomes Related Hate
I might get flamed for this because a lot of you are still heated from today's loss. I am not campaigning to keep Gomes or anything. I am not by any means a fan of Ryan Gomes. Other than Brian Cook, I don’t know if there’s anybody who gets crap more than Gomes this season. Yes, he has been playing horrible this year. Yes, the team has given him plenty of chances to get out of this season long slump and he seems like he's getting worse every game. His popularity is at an all time low after the botched inbound pass at the end of the Spurs game.
Like I said in threads, it is not entirely his fault the Clippers lost this one. Yes, he played a big part in the turnover at the end of the regulation. But one play or one player does not determine the outcome of a basketball game. I am just as upset as other Clipper fans because this kind of miscue reminds me of how the old Clippers choked during close games. Like other fans, I wish Gomes never go near the basketball court during crunch time until he proves he can play at an NBA level again. You can hate on the way he's playing but some of the comments I see here and around Twitter are a little bit over the line. I mean people are asking for Gomes to be killed? Talking about his wife and daughter? Telling him to go commit suicide? It it understandable to be upset and Ryan Gomes is an easy target but anything beyond his play on the court is over the line.
We're Clipper fans. We lose these kind of games ALL THE TIME. We've suffered through decades of "Ryan Gomes-like" plays during crunch time. This year, we are blessed with a closer in Chris Paul so it took 29 games until we lose a "Clipper-esque" game so maybe our expectations are a little higher than previous seasons. There are 66 games in the season and things like this are bound to happen to any team. Let's not sweat over a game that has been decided already and continue supporting our team in a positive manner. Clipper fans are some of the classiest and most knowledgeable fans around and lots of NBA fans know that. I'm still upset about the loss but let's just all cool down and not let "heat of the moment" comments change our players' and other fans' impression of us Clipper fans.

You are Right and Wrong
You are right that people shouldn’t attack Gomes in that manner, but we also lost the Minn. game in large part to an awful shot by Gomes with less than 20 second on the clock. It also took a miracle shot from Paul to prevent the loss to the 76ers. Any player who plays that and does so much harm should not be on the basketball court. However that is VDN’s fault for playing him. If he played me, I would lose us games no matter how hard I tried. It’s not that Ryan Gomes is a bad guy or doesn’t try, it’s just that he doesn’t play anymore at the level required to be in the NBA.. If he didn’t have a three year contract, he would have been gone before the season but the Clippers were too cheap to eat it. Please Neil, buy him out now.
I think my bigger issue is with VDN.
This is for sure not a “heat of the moment” kind of anger. Del Negro isn’t a great coach, and today, it showed. I was at the game, and true, it was full of energy and highlights, but fans around the arena were murmuring the same things. 1) Where is DJ? He was taken out early and he was put in late (regarding the first half). Sure, DJ wasn’t playing some monster game, but when Parker is driving in on you and nobody makes solid attempt to stop him, well sounds like DJ time if any. 2) Questionable timeouts. After a highlight when the crowd was going crazy, the Spurs made a quick basket and VDN called a timeout ASAP. He called quite a few timeouts which I felt were questionable. 3) This is the one we can all relate to, the decision of putting Gomes in. As unhappy as I am with Gomes, it was also his fault for choosing to let him inbound again. Not to mention, the play didn’t look too good. CP3 was running full speed towards the HALF COURT line, I would like to believe he was trying to be a decoy, but it doesn’t look like it. His plays at the end game were just horrific, especially CP3’s final attempt to tie the game to push it to 2OT. From what I saw, the play was, let CP3 have it and let him figure it out on his own. Honestly, Gomes isn’t a terrible player; our issues stem from VDN and his decisions.
I agree... VDN really is going to ruin us in the playoffs, I can foresee it now...

KMart was playing well against the switch action with Parker
This is why DJ didn’t get a PT

Yea, I noticed KMart did a good job switching to Parker...
But then Parker throws the ball inside to Duncan for the mismatch… then two Clippers come help on Duncan and then Duncan finds the shooters on the corners… it’s been like that for a few plays in the 4th quarter and overtime… i’m surprised the Spurs didn’t make more of those 3 pointers

çalling dumb timeouts down the stretch are VDN's trademark
VDN hates being able to advance the ball when the team needs a quick bucket.

He also hates momentum on his side.
Right after some crazy dunk, he calls timeout because Parker makes a basket. Great.
you can say he sucks..but threatening or wishing ill will on him is just stupid.
Remember it’s just a basketball game. Gomes will not be a Clipper for life. There will always be someone that messes up more than others..but the hate is just dumb.
+1
people talk like that with the mask of privacy on the internet. is that something you will tell gomes to has face? that’s one problem with faceless handles spewing useless comments. we all love the clippers, but let’s not start threatening people with physical harm just to make a point of how much we dislike him.

I thought you guys rode him too hard last season.
But he’s been the definition of anemic this year, absolutely.
They are crossing the line
Gomes is a bad NBA player but there’s no reason to wish him (and his family) harm for being bad at his job. I never wanted him on the Clips to begin with but I have no reason to hate the guy personally.

I just understand why Gomes has regressed so much this year
He wasnt great last year, but he wasnt this bad. I think it may simply be a confidence issue. Maybe if all us fans send positive messages and vibes to Gomes his ship will sail in the right direction. I know it sounds hippyish, but sending all this negative comments, tweets, and energy is making him regress even more. Some players are motivated by hate and negativity others simply self destruct.

Adelman was available last year, should have replaced VDN
Can we ask Sloan to come out from retirement and coach the Clips?
lets get behind our team
I am still confused over why VDN had to put him in for inbound. I understand he wants to build Gomes’s confidence but there are better ways and time to do so, not when game is online. I am still proud of them for fighting back. There are many games we could have lost but won. We still have a good record for poor execution so far. It is part of growing up.
Go Clippers.
Vinny is the problem not gomes not cook not the players.......
its VINNY!!! i think Dunleavy would of done a better job with this group. this group is very similar to the Sam I AM era………

Not so sure about that
They are equally bad. For me the hardest time as a clip fan was when our players played like they didn’t care about the game. That was when Dunleavy was the coach. Sure we got in the playoffs in one those year but that was be because of Cassel.

Ryan Gomes is a Clipper for now
and while he’s a Clipper, I will support him and the rest of the Clipper team, including VDN. I agree w/ what everyone is saying about Gomes, he’s a bad NBA player. VDN, not a good NBA coach. I was against his hiring in the 1st place but it’s what we have for now. As Clipper fans, we should support our team and not spit hatred about some of our players/coaches.
Honestly, I stopped logging onto Clipsnation because of all the hate I’ve been reading on here about our own players lately. I sometimes feel like I’m on a Clipper Hater site. Foye, Gomes, VDN are 3 of the victims most targeted by their own fans. Foye hasn’t been as bad as some of you have been criticizing him to be, even before his performance on Sat. Let’s just hope Gomes improves on the way he’s been playing so far.
As was said, Clipper fans are classy. Let’s keep it that way.
Anyways, let’s get this win vs. GSW tmrw and hope Gomes has a good game (if he plays).
Clippers all day!

I don’t understand the hate either. Well, I do understand them but I don’t understand the extent of it.
First of all, Foye isn’t that good. That should be obvious, why are people surprised when he makes a mistake, misses a shot, or simply plays poorly? He’s never been efficient and he’s never been a great three point shooter (maybe he was pretty good in his second year but otherwise he’s been about average).
VDN? He constantly looks like he’s overwhelmed, but shouldn’t you be pissed at management for hiring him? I don’t think you should expect him to realize, “hey I kinda suck so I’ll spare Clippers fans the wrath of my incompetence”.
Gomes? He’s been pretty awful, but people need to relax. He made a terrible mistake at the end, but the Clippers didn’t perform during overtime and CP3 didn’t really accomplish much until the fourth quarter.
Foye might even deserve a one year minimum contract if we can’t find anyone better next season. He’s ok. We do need a better coach, but VDN is ok for finish off this season. Gomes has to go, but don’t hate the guy.
Foye will get more than that from another team
For the same reason he got 4.25/yr from us. He can create a shot.
Once in a while...
then he’ll go out the next night and have an absolutely infuriating chuckfest.

The internet has opened up new doors for communication
both good and bad.
I remember how happy my parents were the first time I was able to set them up on a video call with my sister.
On the other hand, someone hit me up on my facebook page the other day about my writing on here. Something about the only reason that I could possibly be writing here is because I was a “make a wish” kid and this was my dream… haters gonna hate. Just gotta ignore them as long as there are still people who appreciate what you’re doing.
For Gomes, that is his family, his teammates, and some fans who still want to see him succeed. He has to focus on the positive, be able to laugh at the negative, and build his confidence up.
