A couple of wings that are upset with playing time or asking for a trade

As I was reading the latest rumors the yesterday, I noticed that there were some wings that seem to be available:

1. Marvin Williams wants out of ATL. I don't know a whole lot about him, but he's 6'9" and makes 7M a year, which is in our price range.

2. James Anderson wants out of San Antonio. 6'6", and makes a little over 1M. TPE candidate.

3. T-Mac wants more playing time. Again, TPE candidate for the back up 2/3.

Someone around here was asking Eric Pincus about the availability of Ray Allen.

Bledsoe, Foye, Cook and 2nd round picks for Allen? http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=7d45zhk

Now normally, there would be no way the Celtics do this trade, but they suck this year, and are possibly looking to get rid of Rajon 'Hey ref, think fast" Rondo. (Feel free to borrow that nickname Timkempton)

Maybe we trade for Ray Allen, then use our TPE for a back up.

Or maybe we just combine our trade exceptions with two consecutive 1st round picks in an offer for Greg Oden. (Too soon?)

As a Boston fan, even if they’ve been incredibly inconsistent season they’d want at least a first round pick and probably someone with a bit more upside than Bledsoe.

But Ray Ray would fit wonderfully on this team. Right now, the spacing on the Clippers has been tedious, at best, with the only reliable three point shooters being Caron, Mo, and CP3. Then you add in Griffin’s poor outside shot, DJ and Evans’ nonexistent outside game (those two jumpers only sorta count), and you have bad spacing.

JR would’ve been nice, but whatever.

by muckduck on Feb 22, 2012 5:00 AM PST reply actions

I agree regarding what Boston may want but I don't know who they will get it from

The market for Allen is going to be very specific. A title contender looking to add some shooting and scoring from the wing position. Allen is a 36 year old expiring contract. For most teams that’s a 3 month rental. I don’t see alot of teams giving up a first round pick or an upside player better then Bledsoe to get him.
Miami and Chicago are really the only title contenders out East and they don’t really need wing players. Plus I don’t think Boston trades with those 2 teams. Philly, Atlanta, Orlando?? Do any of them really make a trade for Allen? I just don’t see it.
Out West – Oklahoma City is set for wings. They need a post player who can score. The Lakers and Portland need Point Guards. Denver just needs to get healthy. Houston, Memphis, Minny, Utah?? – do they really think Allen makes them a legitimate contender?
That really just leaves Dallas and San Antonio. Allen would be a nice upgrade for both of them but do they have the trade pieces? Dallas doesn’t have their first round pick this year. Does Beaubois have greater upside then Bledsoe? Can Dallas put the salary together to make the trade legit. Vince Carter, Beaubois and filler?
I believe San Antonio has their pick but they don’t really have the expiring contracts to make the $$$ work. And I don’t see them giving up Leonard or Neal to rent Allen.
I’m not holding my breath but I really believe the Clips will have a shot at Allen. If it comes down to losing Allen for nothing or getting Bledsoe and a second round pick instead, I think the Celtics take it.

by Beasel on Feb 22, 2012 6:57 AM PST up reply actions

BTW if the Clips can somehow get Allen

And then use one of the TPE’s to get McGrady like suggested in this fanpost. I would love the potential of that team to win it all this year..

Paul / Mo
Allen / McGrady
Butler / Gomes
Griffin / Evans
Jordan / KMart

That team is a tough out over 7 games if healthy.

by Beasel on Feb 22, 2012 7:00 AM PST up reply actions

I forget that Allen is an expiring contract, so yeah, you’re right.

But I think the Celtics would rather let Allen’s contract expire than trade him for Bledsoe and say a second round pick. Anything short of a first round draft pick, I think, would be useless for the Celtics’ rebuilding process.

I think they would rather finish the season out with their core intact since a three month rental, like you said, probably won’t get much back.

by muckduck on Feb 22, 2012 7:26 AM PST up reply actions

Bledsoe is under his rookie contract for 2 more years after this

And its for less then $2.5M a year. Even if he’s nothing more then a back-up point guard its still better then getting nothing. And his contract is so small it won’t have any effect on the Celtics future moves to re-build.
For me it comes down to 2 things regarding the Clippers and Allen.
1)No matter how bad the Celtics play its unlikely they won’t at least be the 8 seed in the East. Are they really ready to give up on this season before it is over?
2)Is there a team out there is willing to trade for Allen and has an upside player that they’re willing to part with that’s better the Bledsoe?

by Beasel on Feb 22, 2012 8:50 AM PST up reply actions

1. I don’t think they are since they’ll already be in rebuild mode after this season so why not give it one last shot even if it unlikely they’ll go anywhere.

2. Doubt it. Boston’s Big Three were worth first rounders and young players approximately four years ago, so yeah.

If they do trade Allen, however, I would like to see him on the Clippers above all other teams.

by muckduck on Feb 22, 2012 8:52 AM PST up reply actions

"One last shot" is utterly pointless...

if you don’t actually have a shot at the title. If they don’t blow it up now, they’re just delaying the inevitable and cheating the fans.

OKC not set for wings.

Allen would be superb there – Harden is more of a point forward than a true wing player. Having Allen in crunch time would mean they have 4 very offensive players on the floor so could score on you in many ways and have Ibaka or Perkins as the inside presence.

And with the 12th pick in the 2005 NBA draft, the LA Clippers pick Yaroslav "Dogs Dinner" Korolev

by ClippersUK on Feb 22, 2012 7:31 AM PST up reply actions

Yep, they are starting D Cook at SG right now.

If they somehow get Allen, its game over for the rest of the west. Westbrook, Allen, Harden, Durant, Ibaka is a devestating crunch time group.

by cassellmania on Feb 22, 2012 9:45 AM PST up reply actions

Lol. I guess my sarcasm didn't transfer well.

You also can’t trade consecutive first round picks. Also, Greg oden is out for the season.

Good one....

I sure did begin to question how long you knew what a basketball was. Greg Oden? Smh…

He’s average.*

He is the very essence of mediocrity, which isn’t really a bad thing.

by muckduck on Feb 22, 2012 8:53 AM PST up reply actions

He seems above average, if only for his rebounding at the SF position.

He should be a 5th scoring option, though.

Williams

Williams denies the story that he wants a trade or has even complained about playing time pretty strongly.

no mention of stephen jackson?

I know he’s a headcase, but I’ve always kinda liked his game. Think he’d be an upgrade, over even JR, just hope he can keep his head on straight for another title run for himself. The way he’s acting in MIL, I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s traded for peanuts.

Versatile, can hit shots, and does his job. Plus, he’s gotta be pissed that Hayward is taking his minutes.

by FlyByKnight on Feb 23, 2012 2:56 PM PST up reply actions

he would be one guy that could come in right away

and be quickly if not instantly acclimated and put us as contenders to make the NBA FINALS. He not some super stud but a guy that is fit and big and hits his shots. He’s smart enough to know how to fit into the equation.

Terrence Williams has more abilities, which we may or may not need, but he would take close to most of the season to get solid with the flow of the team.

CJ Miles I like. A better fit than Brewer would be.

Ray Allen would be a godsend

but unless we’re sure that Allen would resign, I’m not willing to trade Bledsoe for a 3 month rental.

Because never might not happen.

On Bledsoe, we’re holding onto potential-which is okay if you’re in rebuilding mode, but as of now we want to win to try and keep Griffin and Paul happy.

Marvin Williams maybe...

And I say maybe because he’s been in Atlanta all these years stuck behind J Smoove and then came Johnson and Horford and took even more of the production away from Marvin. Still, I think he’s more of a bust.

I’d love to see Ray Allen in a Clipper uni, and it’s very doable that trade. I mean, assuming the Celts trade Rondo also, to get Bledsoe and plug him in as a starter is not too bad for Boston. Bledsoe is more than decent.

I just don't see Bledsoe holding that much value.

Other teams do their research, and Bledsoe has NOT been having a good year. For them to blow up their whole roster is a bit far fetched.

by SurfinQ00 on Feb 23, 2012 7:10 PM PST up reply actions

Bledsoe hardly has played mainly due to his injury.

Much of his value is still based on last year. He really hasn’t done anything yet to alter that for better or worse.
