ok

I like the way the blue with FanShots breaks up the front page, but it seemed strange to have a FanShot of a recap directly on top of another recap.

Hey Steve/John

Do you think we should inititiate the 24 hour rule before Clips Nation allows a new member to join? This may help with the impulsive trolling. Most NFL blog sites have this.
As we grow in popularity, I think we will see more and more issues. A real fan would wait 24 hours to join.

Here's the scoop...

I actually had the 24 hour waiting period turned on until recently. When I originally turned it on, it was for spambots — we’d never had anything like this before. Last night I turned it back on.

My gut feeling has always been that the waiting period probably costs a site some users who would sign up if they could get the instant gratification of commenting, but otherwise will not. But the general consensus is that it probably does impede growth, and it has some obvious benefits. So for now it’s back.

I was going to say the same

a 24 hour waiting period would prevent new users to instantly commenting on threads they want to comment on. Some people join just so they can add in their feedback on a specific comment and leave right after while others’ stay. Putting on a a one day waiting period could hinder the will to post a comment specifically for a comment.

Furthermore, if we were to have open game threads, other members from other communities are welcomed whether it be Oklahoma City fans are the other Los Angeles fans. By adding the one day waiting period, my assumption is that anybody that isn’t already with the Clips Nation community would have to wait a day, therefore sometimes not everybody can come in and do a game day thread comments.

I don’t know whether I particularly agree with the one day waiting period, but obviously there is a benefit to it. Obviously we can try and keep certain users out such as trolls with pornographic gifs but again, I’m not too fond of it, not that it particularly bothers me. It’s more that I like to welcome opponent’s opinions and by creating a 24 hour wait, it restricts some fans to coming in.

I’m just wondering how hard is it to add a few more mods so that whenever a mod see’s something explicit, they can just delete it. They wouldn’t have to be posters or journalist, just people to monitor the site of those gifs?

Well, until a couple of days ago, there were NO mods...

Steve was the only mod. Now there are a few, but I hate the idea of deleting posts, banning people, etc….
You’ve been around a while Jack, isn’t the beauty of this site the free exchange of ideas?
As I recall, I used to think you were an idiot, and now I like you. I think you felt the same. Stuff changes, right? I don’t think we can save the porno guy, but everybody else is educatable. Educable.

by John Raffo on Feb 23, 2012 9:06 PM PST up reply actions

Well that's the idea

It’d be nice hear the voices of opposing fans. Sometimes we get highly opinionated thinkers that are not open to change and sometimes we have the other. As a site, I like that. It opens the doors for conflict, therefore I do support devil’s advocates. And I’m with you in the idea that deleting posts should only be limited to certain rule infractions.

Thus my idea that bringing in a few more mods to monitor the sites might be a good idea. Not in a way that mods delete any unnecessary conflict, more than we have more mods to delete unwanted gifs from porno man. Let’s face it, older generations like Raffo and Perrin need their sleep at night right?

And yes, we have had our conflicts. Didn’t we have clash of dick jokes at one point? For the record, I still find dick jokes funny.

2 game skid

How far we’ve come when we can say the longest losing streak so far is at 2 games… Feels great.

Soon the clicking from your keyboard will fade, and you'll realize that it's a bird tapping on your bedroom window.

It was all just a dream. We’re actually 4-28 and we traded Blake for Stephen Jackson.

And that we never got Chris Paul

..or Eric Gordon for that matter. We’re still living in the era of Nick Fazekas, Dan Dickau, and Smush Parker.

Clinical anxiety caused by memories of Smush

It’s really going around in Los Angeles.
