I just heard a Brian Schmitz, a writer for the Orlando Sentinel explain how the Clippers shoud trade Blake Griffing and DeAndre Jordan to the Magic for Dwight Howard. He was on with Max and Marcellus on ESPN 710 am. I got so pissed that I sent him the following email.
Hi Brian,
I just heard your interview on ESPN Los Angeles with Max and Marcellus and, as a lifelong Clippers fan going back to the San Diego years, I just about jumped out of my office chair when you suggested a Dwight Howard for Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan trade.
Dwight Howard is a fabulous player, but Blake Griffin is not only one of the top 10 to 12 players in the league, he is also just scratching the surface as far as his skill set goes. His improvement on defense as well as his post up game and jump shot from this last year to this year is remarkable. He works extremely hard to get better and his effort going for rebounds and lose balls motivates his teammates to bring their effort up a notch as well.
With all due respect to Mr. Howard, I don't see much improvement in his offensive game (or free-throws, for that matter) and his big smiley face during timeouts, free-throws, and after games just irks me. I don't think losing bothers Dwight as much as other stars in the league.
There is no way in hell the Clippers trade Blake Griffin. He is the most exciting, marketable commodity in the NBA today. The shoe deal he signs next year will make Derrick Rose's recent deal look like pocket change.... (okay, that might be a stretch). His value to the Clipper organization goes beyond his on court value. He sells tickets and increases TV ratings in a way that Dwight Howard can't. And what NBA free-agent would not want to play with Blake Griffin.
The Clippers are just fine with CP3, Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan going forward. The other pieces will change from year to year, and championship to championship, but the core is in place. Trade him to the
Lakers if you want, but dreaming of Blake Griffin in Orlando just ain't going to happen.
