Only 20 games into the season... are we being spoiled?

Hi all!

This is my second post here and my first fan post. I've been a fan since elementary school when Lamond Murray was their number one option. My favorite Clipper memory was when the Clips beat the Stockton/Malone Jazz by 20 something at the old LA Sports Arena when the Kandi man was their starting center. I became an even bigger Clipper fan when Kobe/Shaq Lakers drawn obnoxious bandwagon fans (some of them don't even know Kareem!!!) from my school. I was wondering if anybody share the same feeling as I do. The feeling of winning and having a good team is... weird.

It feels weird with the expectation to win before every game. Even during the 2005 - 2006 season when we were good, I know there are be games that we'll lose. Like many of you guys, I became a Clipper fan because they were the 'other team' (I root for all the 'other' LA teams) and they really suck. After decades of failure, it only take 20 games to feel like a "winning club"; it feels like the club now has an atmosphere of winning (kind of like the feeling you see from the Lakers, Yankees, Spurs, etc. but to a lesser degree). We are upset because we are 13-7 instead of 14 - 6; in any other season, we're lucky if we're 7 - 13!! And THIS IS WEIRD!

I see the effects of winning right now. More and more people hating on anything Clipper related. More and more bandwagon fans who thinks OMGWTFBBQWOWZER PERKINS JUST HAD BLAKE GRIFFIN'S BABY. I know we are winning and all. But it feel less comfortable as a Clipper fan nowadays because we're winning! I feel like day by day, we're turning more and more like the Lakers or the Yankees. All of this media coverage is not making it any better. At this rate, I feel like before we even make the playoffs (IF we get there... hey, there are still 46 games to go and I'm a Clipper fan afterall), the team and the fans will be as arrogant as the clubs I mentioned above since we are getting so much attention during such a short time (I'd say we're even more hyped than Miami last year) after being crapped on for decades.

We can't control what the media says. We can't control who to become fans of this club. I really hope true Clipper fans can maintain "Old Clipper Values (minus the losing)" as long as we can and take every bit of success as humble of an attitude as we can. I hope with these value so we can set an example for these new fans and pave way for a new generation of classy, educated Clipper fans (that are accustomed to winning!). I really hope our fan base image is not turning into the way Laker fans are being perceived...

Okay, that's all I have

P.S. I'm new around here... what is this JUMBACO business?

Great Post

I feel similar to you. It’s great winning and I am really enjoying that but winning games to me stops being as fun when you are the favourite. I have got used to losing often and being happily surprised when we pulled off beating a big team. Now, we are goin into big games with an equal chance and expected to beat lottery teams now. It feels strange!
The playoffs will be great (assuming we get their). I have always been jealous of other teams in the post season, especially after our taster 6 years ago. I can’t wait for that. Well get haters as we get more successful but to deal with that I just think of them as the same people who always used to laugh at us when saying “well, that’s the clippers” when we messed up. Let them hate us – it’s jealousy and we deserve our time in the spotlight.

Bingo! Oh me oh my!

Welcome

During the game threads while we are at home watching the Clips play on Prime Ticket or Fox Sports West, there is an AMAZING Jack In The Box commercial where lil’ Jack has the idea for a JUMBACO and it comes with a song and dance number and all. I’m sure you’ve seen the pictures so i won’t go into what a jumbaco is (ok it’s 2 tacos with a jumbo jack burger in between). It’s amazing and some citizens have even tried it (although the commercial is amazing, don’t try eating one as those citizens have complained of long stints on the toilet afterwards). JUMBACO has now come to have a few meanings, it’s for good luck now, i think, i dunno, it’s just mindless fun cause the video in the commercial is awesome and so are the Clippers. Hope that makes some sense, if not, go on youtube and look for JUMBACO and the commercial will explain itself.

Very good post

I love reading this. I feel very much the same way, and I actually wear less Clipper stuff now because I don’t want to be identified as a bandwagon fan. I don’t want people thinking I love Blake and CP3 and don’t care about Kaman or EJ or all of the players that were around before we were elite.

I love this team for the name on the jersey, not the players on the roster. If everyone leaves in 2 years, I’ll still love this team. Those of us on the site who have been here know who the real fans have always been, who stuck through thick and thin, and many of the new people have fit in nicely despite being new. Some haven’t fit as well, acting a bit like obnoxious Laker fans, and they usually get roasted for it.

The key is that you don’t let the shiny new team change your feelings about the Clippers. Stay humble, stay grateful, and always be ready for the other foot to drop.

that should be enough to erase the “you’re only a fan because of Chris Paul- speculations” :)

I have a couple of lob city shirts from five four

they are really nice. But no one really sees them because it is too cold to not be wearing a jacket.

I love that the team is winning.

I don’t expect us to win every game, but I do go into every game expecting a win lol.

We’ve all dreamed of having hall-of-fame caliber players. We now have (will have) two in their prime. We have shaken the woeful and lowly tags and a lot of non-fans are now drinking the Kool-Aid. Rebuilding teams were on the OKC plan, now they might try to go the Clipper route (a few years of high draft picks, luck into a superstar, and then trade assets for a star/superstar). Teams (and their fans) are looking at us on the calendar and aren’t saying that we’re an easy win anymore. It’s a new day and it’s going to be uncomfortable if you aren’t willing to embrace change. We all have our stories of when and how we became fans. We’ve stuck with the team through thick and thin (mostly thin) and now it’s finally paying off. So don’t overthink it and just enjoy it.

I see other fans hating at every chance that they get, but I don’t really care. I’d rather a hater be mad and upset about what the Clippers are doing than us fans be mad. Jordan, Magic, Bird, Zeke, Shaq, etc. all had their haters. I’m pretty sure that their fans didn’t care too much while they were winning championships. We’re no longer the mom and pop shop and aren’t going to be able to hide. We’re going to stand out, because of some of the highlights but more so due to the drastic improvement and quality acquisitions.

What?

I think we might remain at Staples…

But we gotta remove the previous tenant’s trash and shit hanging on the ceiling.

Hey, I don't mind moving

As long as it’s still in LA and as long as it’s better than Staples. The Orlando Magic owner did it, why can’t Sterling. Wishful thinking…
