Around SBN: Trent Richardson Interviews Fellow Brown Brandon Weeden

Bebê

So yeah, we got Kenyon Martin, that went quite well so far, let'S see, how it pans out, but I'm confident, this will work out and character issues will not be that much of a problem, with the culture we have and with Chris Paul and Chauncey and Caron around. But I've read a few articles on the Kenyon signing and some of the readers comments reflected exactly what I thought... we already have Reggie, adding Kenyon doesn't really give us anyone exceptionally tall for the second team. Wouldn't it have been nice to get a 7-footer? These days a good 7- footer for back-up is a hard find. They all come at insane price tags, they're almost all incredibly stiff and a lot of them can't really do much except for... breathe,... exist, maybe raise their arms every once in a while. Now I know, it's too late for this season, but there might be someone, we can draft, who might have a lot of potential: Lucas "Bebê" Nogueira. Nbadraft.net says, among his stenghts are his length (theres a pic on google, he appears taller than Dwight), his quickness, and his good balance, and that he can change directions quickl, has a shooting touch and converts his free throws (!), plus he's a shot blocker an rebounder. His weaknesses are listed as being lazy, having a stars attitude, feeling entitled and being too skinny! I think, if theres any way we can draft this kid, he will fit in tremendously. He blocks, he rebounds, he can develop an offense, and you can not be too lazy and entitled around two humble, talented guys like Blake + Blake will show him the importance of working out and BG and DJ can help him with the bulking up. He might be a catch, if we can't get him. Also, his speed and agility make it possible for him to sub as a big four. For times, when we could use a defensive minded 7 feet wall of him + DJ. Plus it seems these days a good team needs a good foreign guy... and we don't have one. So, my question, would you want him on the team? Can we get him? What do you think?

Don't know much about him

but from this he sounds like he could be a 2nd round steal

Yikes, didn't concentrate there at all

Sorry, theres a lot of writing mistakes in there, I apologize.

Also, all my paragraphs (is that the word for when you leave a line blank?) have vanished. I totally made a lot of paragraphs so it’s easier to read, but you don’t see them in the published version… soo… how do I make paragraphs?

by germanclipper on Feb 5, 2012 3:10 AM PST reply actions

???

When you hit “enter” it breaks the line into paragraphs… perhaps you have some strange Teutonic keyboard?
You got your point across regardless. No one here (except perhaps our Fearless Leader) would dare write a post in German, so good on you, germanclipper.

Strange teutonic keyboard! lol

No, we do have “Enter” Keys, so thats not the reason ;-)
I don’t know, I’ll see it next time I’m posting something.
But thank you for the reply

Just behind Latin.

Scouts were all over him awhile back.

He has nice upside, but is going to have to put in a lot of work. Both DraftExpress and NBAdraft.net have him as a 2nd rounder in 2013.

One thing that I don’t think many of us have even taken into consideration is that we have a really good record. With that record means that our pick drops in the draft. Our 2013-16 2nd round picks (5 picks) have been traded away. These picks were top 55 protected and assumed to never be consummated. Today, there are only 5 teams with a better record than us (which would place us at 55 or 54). We get our 2012 pick regardless of the record, but our future teams will possibly have to cough up those “unlikely” 2nd rounders that we traded away.

What strange territory is this?

Clips without a first, never mind without a lottery pick… and now, you say we have no seconds?
I didn’t realize ALL the seconds were traded away, protected or not. When is the next first? Next year, yes? 2013?

by John Raffo on Feb 5, 2012 7:57 AM PST up reply actions

We'll have a 2012 2nd and 2013 1st (if we don't trade it away).

We traded away many of our 2nd rounders in those deals where we would absorb contracts.

1/1/09: The Toronto Raptors traded Hassan Adams to the Los Angeles Clippers for cash and a 2015 2nd round draft pick.

1/5/09: The Denver Nuggets traded Cheikh Samb to the Los Angeles Clippers for cash and a 2015 2nd round draft pick.

2/16/09: The Detroit Pistons traded Alex Acker and a 2011 2nd round draft pick (Trey Thompkins) to the Los Angeles Clippers for a 2013 2nd round draft pick.

8/12/09: The New Orleans Hornets traded Rasual Butler and cash to the Los Angeles Clippers for a 2016 2nd round draft pick.

1/26/10: The New Orleans Hornets traded Bobby Brown to the Los Angeles Clippers for a 2014 2nd round draft pick.

Wow those are som bad deals in hindsight

The only one that sticks out as good is the Rasual one, because he at least brought us one decent year as a starter. None of the other guys even came back to the NBA.

The jury is still out on the Trey trade.

by LJ Hann on Feb 5, 2012 10:49 AM PST up reply actions

Some of them were to help other teams get under the luxury tax threshold.

The other team usually sent the cash to buyout the player’s contract. Adams was waived the same day. Sambe had little run with us. We gave Acker a small look. Brown was in the NBA recently, but I can’t remember where. I think he was just a training camp player.

In all honesty, a bottom 5 pick in the draft isn’t likely to make much of a difference to begin with, but it would be nice to see us stash a Euro player.

The 2nd rounders are usually bust

but if you’re lucky, you might be able to hit guys like Manu, Rashard Lewis, Michael Redd, etc.

starting at Center.

Help us Altered Beast you're our only hope.

Obviously

but seems to that DJ is only in there because he’s so athletic, tall, and long. Regardless, DJ was a projected first round pick anyway. It wasn’t like he wasn’t expected to contribute. He went from lottery pick, to a mid pick, to a 2nd round pick. Guy’s like Manu or Redd never was seen as players to contribute.
