So I know how many people are planning to play and also so I have a feel for the types of players we have available in the interest of trying to make the teams relatively even, please fill out this questionnaire ASAP. Whether you have already bought your tickets or are purchasing them now, you need to fill out the questionnaire for everyone who wants to play. If you show up Wednesday night, even if you bought a group ticket, if your name is not on this list, I'm going to have to reserve the right to say no. I will do my best to accommodate everyone, even the late comers, but it just gets too crazy if we've got lots of people showing up at the last minute.
The rest is the same as before. You guys know the drill. Use this link to purchase your tickets. The password is clipsnation.
Game: Suns vs. Clippers
Date: Wednesday, March 28
Time: 7:30pm
Tickets: $80 loge corner, $50 200 level, $40 upper center, $20 upper corner
Be sure to select the specific price range that you want, as the tickets will otherwise default to the 300 level seats.
Here are the details for meeting tomorrow. You have three choices, with the last one being the really important one.
1) I'll be at the ESPNZone at 4:00. I've got some time tomorrow, so I'm heading up early. We can watch Knicks-Magic, drink beer and talk for a while. I don't know exactly where I'll be, but I'll be wearing a Clippers cap and a Livingston Jersey -- find me.
2) The group check in is at 5:45 at the 11th Street entrance. We've got a conference room with a cash bar for the pre-game, so definitely get there early and hang out with us in Staples before the game starts. Hopefully we can do some last minute organizing of teams at this time for everyone who shows up.
3) This is the big one. After the game, meet outside section 111 on the arena level. Once we're all there and the arena is cleared out, we can go in and get to playing. We'll have about an hour of court time.
Even if you can't make it to the pre-game, you can definitely still play on the court. We'll have a post game meet up and go down to the arena level as a group. If you are attending the game but not planning to play basketball, you are of course still welcome to come down court side and watch all the action. In fact, if there is someone who isn't planning on playing who wants to be the videographer for this event, let me know because I'm sure this will be must see YouTube stuff. It's going to be Blob City, baby!
One thing that is hopefully pretty obvious -- bring something you can play basketball in, including the proper shoes! Also, and this is less obvious, please bring two T-Shirts to play in -- one white and one dark. That way we might be able to tell the teams apart when we get on the floor.
Based on the time frame, we'll need to use the same basic tournament structure we did last time. We will target having eight teams -- the first four games are half court five-on-five. The four winning teams play each other in semi-final games that are also half court, and then the Final will run full court. That's seven games, spread across four time slots. We don't have time for more than that. That's the maximum -- if we have fewer people, then we can hopefully play more games, or more full court possibly.
A note about the games. The last time we did this, it was very stressful for me. We don't get a lot of time on the court, and organizing the teams and the games was a chore. We did 8 teams of 10 people each last time to get 80 people a chance to play at least some ... and then we had other people show up to the actual event wanting to play as well. I'm working to make it go more smoothly this time, but I'm reserving the right to limit who is playing based on factors like when you purchased your tickets and how long you've been a member of the site. Based on ticket sales so far, it seems like we are not going to have a problem -- everyone who wants to play should be able to play. But don't wait until the last minute if you want to play -- buy the tickets and fill out the questionnaire.
See you Wednesday night!
