After the game tonight, I attended a season ticket holder event where Ralph Lawler interviewed VDN, Andy Roeser and Neil Olshey with a series of questions submitted by STHs.
Most of the questions and responses were pretty standard, but the statement that stood out for me was when Olshey said to the audience, "I promise that Chauncey will be a Clipper next year." At first, I thought he might have gotten carried away and would try to backtrack a bit in subsequent comments. But he continued to speak about Chauncey's importance to the team... and then he reiterated that Chauncey will be with the Clippers next season. Take it for what it's worth, but he said it in front of a few hundred STHs so I would imagine he believes it.
UPDATE: The comments reminded me of a few other things that Olshey said last night:
1. They have offered Chauncey the chance during the rehab to to hang around the team's operations side and get experience as a coach (already happening), a broadcaster, and/or a front office executive. According to Neil, Chauncey said that his most important job is as a player because that is the only way he can be in that locker room as a true peer and sounding board for the players.
2. Neil said that the team is $300,000 into luxury tax territory and that they plan to be aggressive with the expiring contracts to try to improve the team in the off-season.
