Say what you want about Mike Dunleavy, but I doubt this would be as big an issue if MDSR were still the coach. Don't get me wrong now, I don't want Dun back as a coach, but this was one of his best attributes as a coach.
Dun had/has a reputation in the league and among refs that few coaches posses. The way he works the refs rivals that of the legendary Chris Paul. Dunleavy would call the fouls way before the refs, to the point where Phil Jackson said "Are you gonna ref the game or are you going to let him(Dunleavy" (paraphrase). Dun was always putting together video(the mastermind behind the great Lebron chase with the secret weapon, the DVD! Dun, dun, dun, dun...) constantly pointing out fouls that were missed in the previous games for Stu and Stern.
Now I'm not asking VDN to morph into Dun, but I feel that VDN is missing opportunities to show his guys that he will go to bat for them. How do so many of our players have techs and the coach han't gotten tossed once to fire his guys up, especially on the road. I think that would cause the players to rally together even more. The players are a reflection of the coach so Vinny needs to reflect a bit more bravado. After all, he is the coach that went to blows with the last GM he worked for.
I wanted to make this a fanpost instead of a reply to steve's post because i want it up to be seen by the clippers organization because this must be addressed by the organization now.
Oh and don't worry Vinny, when you return after getting tossed, we'll make Robert Pack give you your seat back.
