I know we're not really supposed to worry about what other thinks of our team. But I can't help but see the increase in Griffin related hate this season. It pisses me off to see even knowledgeable fans (since they don't watch a lot of Clipper basketball and only judge from what they read/see from mainstream outlets such as ESPN) from other teams thinking Griffin is this cheap/flopping/whining/dirtbag player whose only game is to dunk over people (I mean, people are saying that he is at Kevin Garnett's level). I know Griffin is 20-10 on 53% shooting more on his atheletic abilites than basketball skills so I see why people say he's not a "good" basketball player (but wouldn't this make him even the more scary when he actually play more on basketball skills?) but he's more than sportscenter highlights.
I don't understand why people hate Blake Griffin so much. I do have my dissatisfactions with him. He needs tons of improvement on defense. He needs to be consistent on shooting free throws. He needs to stop complaining to the refs and get back on defense. Because of this, people says he's a whiner. Who doesn't bark at the refs if they are frustrated for not getting calls?
People says he's physical and gives cheap shots. But isn't this how you are suppose to play near the rim? Is this not the reason for calling the position POWER forward? He plays hard because he wants to win and you're telling him that he's playing too hard? Battling for position and helping your team win to the best of your abilities is wrong? People are actually saying now Andre Miller and Jason Smith's cheap shots on BG is justified because BG is a dirty jerk.
I understand he dunks on people and sometimes uses his defender as leverage for extra hangtime on dunks (might be offensive fouls). The refs don't call offensive fouls so what can he do? Stop dunking on people because your teams don't like what his off hand is doing? He stares after dunks but he doesn't stare at anybody. He just stares for some reason. I think it's part of his intensity during games. HE DOES NOT CELEBRATE DUNKS. Heck, players celebrate more on jumpshots than BG celebrate on his dunks. If a player from another team dunks on us (even if there was a little shove), I would give credit to the player for making an awesome athletic play and not hate on them for dunking on our team.
Off the court, he's a humble guy. I havne't seen him being cocky to the media at all. He works hard. He doesn't get in trouble with management. He doesn't have a single tattoo on him. He doesn't get in trouble with the law. He doesn't do drugs. He doesn't have any marital or baby mama problems. He's not blowing his money feeding his posse, partying, or buying lottery tickets. He seems real grounded. If I have a kid who's an athlete, I will tell him or her to work hard and be humble like Blake Griffin. He doesn't respond to provocations from other teams. Can you imagine how some players would react to the physical play and trash talk that he's been seeing? To me, he just wants to win and he wants to what he can to help the team win. He's just getting a lot of negative attention doing it.
I think Blake Griffin is a decent fellow and I don't want the media to screw him during the course of his career by turning him into this supervillain. So to sum it up, eff you media and trolls everywhere for turning a guy who works hard and compete into this flopping "fake tough guy". I might get flamed by trolls for this so Clipper Nation please defend me lol.
