Just wanted to get a general idea of what y'all think about the quality and enjoyability of the ball being played through this year's playoffs. I know the NBA tells the refs to let them play through a lot more contact in the playoffs, and that this is supposed to make the games more intense and therefore create more drama, but I think things have gotten a little out of hand this year...
The Clips-Grizz series, result notwithstanding, was one of the ugliest series I have seen since the Spurs-Pistons finals in 2005. Similarly, the current Indiana-Miami, and Philly-Boston series are showing us some appalling offensive ball (33-33 is NOT an appropriate halftime score, my friends). I mean, I'm a fan of defensive ball too, but not to the extent that blatant shoves and fouls are just completely ignored, especially on drives to the basket and while jostling for rebounding position.
I have really liked the intensity players have shown this year, but when the refs are just spectators you wind up with games like the Indy-Miami Game 5 last night, where players take matters into their own hands.
So my question is this, do you think that the refs calling the games the way they've been calling them during this year's playoffs are bad for the NBA's popularity?
