Can anyone explain the "let's sign an assistant GM/coach of a good team" whenever a GM or coaching position opens up. People rather have unknown quantities then people that actually have done a job but weren't perfect at it? Competent coaching rubs off like magic dust? Good teams hire good assistants? What it is? I honestly don't get it.

It's almost as weird as the whole "we want draft picks vs actual players".
