Friday NBAction open thread

USA TODAY Sports

The battle for the eighth seed in the west heats up tonight as the Jazz, Lakers, Rockets and Warriors are all in action, with Houston visiting Oakland on ESPN.

Another busy night in the association this evening. With 24 teams playing, there are plenty of games to watch, and plenty of games that impact the Clippers.

Oklahoma City at Charlotte, 4:00 PM

Indiana at Orlando, 4:00 PM

Washington at Brooklyn, 4:30 PM

Dallas at Detroit, 4:30 PM

Memphis at Cleveland, 4:30 PM

Atlanta at Boston, 5:00 PM, ESPN

Philadelphia at Miami, 5:00 PM

Utah at Chicago, 5:00 PM

Portland at San Antonio, 5:30 PM

Phoenix at Sacramento, 7:00 PM

Toronto at LA Lakers, 7:30 PM, Time Warner Sports

Houston at Golden State, 7:30 PM, ESPN

Memphis is chasing the Clippers, and the Grizzlies may catch a break tonight in Cleveland where Kyrie Irving is doubtful with the flu.

The teams the Clippers are chasing are probably not in any danger tonight. Oklahoma City visits Charlotte, the worst team in the league, while San Antonio is home to Portland, and should be able to handle them even without Tony Parker.

Utah is currently in eighth in the West but the Jazz are in danger of missing the playoffs if they keep losing. They are in Chicago tonight, where a loss coupled with a Lakers win would reduce Utah's hold on the eight spot to a half game.

It gets really interesting with the late games tonight. The Lakers are chasing the eighth playoff spot in the West, not to mention trying to get above .500 for the first time since Mike D'Antoni's first game as coach. The Lakers are hosting the Raptors, giving them a great chance to finally get their heads above water. Meanwhile, on ESPN the Warriors are hosting the Rockets. Golden State and Houston are two of the three teams the Lakers are chasing in the standings, so one of them has to lose. Not only that -- the Rockets have already beaten the Warriors twice this season in games that featured quite a few tense moments. In Houston the Rockets tied an NBA record for three pointers made before the Warriors started fouling to stay out of the record book. Houston then beat the Warriors in Oakland just a few days later in another chippy contest. So tonight's meeting promises to be entertaining.
