A Clippers Carol....

The Ghost of Clippers Past: Donald Sterling has been renowned as a "Scrooge" of an owner. Paying the minimum for free agents, only getting the second tier of players available (at best) and of course letting any decent talent walk in free agency because he wouldn't pay what they were worth. Yes these were the 80's and 90's of Clippers basketball. I can only assume that DTS was making so much money out of his property sales that he needed something to offset that to balance the tax debt the IRS were seeking from him. Hello NBA and the Clippers! What better way to lose money than owning an NBA team. Especially when you refuse to pay anyone near what they're worth and hire coaches and executive staff that have to follow your lead or get sacked in the process....How dare they try and win games!!! The Ghost of Clippers Present: Was there an epiphany? Did older age kick in? Did the Real Estate market crash in LA so badly? Who knows??? But over the last 3 seasons we have seen a change of.....well everything from Mr Sterling. He paid max contracts to 2 players....read that again. 2 MAX CONTRACTS!!!! Has he ever done that before?? I honestly don't know? I know he has brought in some great players.....who were mostly past their primes but who still made the Clippers legit...nearly (Thinking Sam Cassell, Cat Mobley, Baron Davis). Anyway, we now have about $100m worth of talent on our team (according to original contracts, etc.).Not including the HIGHEST PAID COACH in the league!!! WOW. That's so cool. We have a great front office that seems to know what they are doing. But having Doc as a coach and administrator has built belief in the organisation that has never been see before! The Ghost of Clippers Future: So where to next season? DJ is due for a renewed deal. CP3 and BG are locked up. Barnes, Redick, Dudley and Crawford have contracts beyond next year. Big Baby and Granger are on our roster but for how long? At this stage of the season, there are lots of questions still to be answered about the current Clippers line up. Do we (the Clippers faithful) want these UFA's back? What would it take to keep them? Are they worth it? What other options do we have? Will DTS be prepared to pay the luxury tax to put a Championship contending team on the court for the next few years???? All I can say right now is that I'm loving the Clippers RIGHT NOW!!! It's great to watch them play and be so competitive. I have high hopes and really believe we can win a championship with this current core of players. Best of luck guys. Go Clippers!!!!
