Let me preface this post by saying I know we HAVE to make a pick in the first round this year. However, there is nothing to say we need to KEEP the pick after it's all said and done. I'm going to propose a strategy that may work out in the Clippers favour?
I think the Clips should look at trading the pick to either Philly or Milwaukee or Dallas . Please let me explain.
Philly has 2 first rounders and 5 second rounders this year. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure they aren't going to want 7 rookies on their roster (even if that would probably be better than what they finished with last year?) We could try and negotiate a deal where we give them our no. 28 pick and we receive 2 second rounders back. Philly has pick no. 32 and I don't think there's going to be a big difference in quality between 28 and 32? If we can also get another late 2nd rounder that could be used to pick up a cheap option as a reserve or possibly used as trade bait for something else.
The reason Philly does this is that they would then have 3 first rounders. They could almost certainly trade picks 10 and 28 to move up. Sacramento at 8 is keen? Maybe Cavs would like to trade down to get 2 bites of the cherry?
My thinking is similar with Milwaukee and Dallas but their options are more limited. I mainly included Dallas as having access to Shawn Marion in a S+T deal may be worth looking at?
