In a move many were expecting, the Clippers waived Jordan Hamilton today. Hamilton is a wing, a position the Clippers are extremely deep at this season, and also was slated to make above the minimum salary this upcoming season; he was a surplus in every way to this team, making him extremely expendable.
By waiving Hamilton the Clippers open up their 15th and last roster spot. It was reported the team was in talks with Big Baby earlier this week to a return, but it wouldn't be surprising for the slot to remain open heading into training camp before adding a minimum player. While Doc usually likes to keep one open position on the roster for buyouts during the season and 10-day contracts, the Clippers could potentially bring back baby or another minimum player, and simply cut someone like Dawson if needed during the season. As they are not burdened by the hard cap this season, it would only cost the Clippers luxury tax dollars.
As of today the Clippers' roster stands at:
PG | Chris Paul | Austin Rivers | Pablo Prigioni
SG | J.J. Redick | Jamal Crawford | C.J. Wilcox
SF | Paul Pierce | Lance Stephenson | Wesley Johnson | Branden Dawson |
PF | Blake Griffin | Josh Smith
C | DeAndre Jordan | Cole Aldrich |
