From Elais Sports Bureau re: Maggette

And this in only 33 minutes

Star-divide

Take a look at Corey Maggette's line in the Clippers' 111-105 win over the Wizards: He scored 29 points in a game in which he was credited with only nine field-goal attempts -- none of them a 3-point attempt! Seven-of-nine shooting from the floor and connecting on 15 of 17 foul shots will do that for you; we checked the math ... it proves out.

You have to go back more than 25 years to find the last player who scored that many points in an NBA game in which he didn't make any three-pointers and finished with fewer than 10 field-goal attempts. That player was Bill Cartwright; playing for the Knicks on Nov. 17, 1981, Mister Bill scored 31 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the floor and a 19-of-19 performance from the line.

which ticks me off all the more
it is clear now that Maggette is the difference in the recent Clipper resurgence.

Dunleavy finally got over whatever it was limiting Corey's minutes, and Corey got over his need to take every shot available.

He is now central part of the offense.  He is distributing the ball well right now and keeping his boneheadedness  to a minimum.

This has not come at the expense of defensive intensity.  Perhaps that has something to do with Jason Hart, who has won me over.

Bastardo!
Stealing my thunder!  I am about to post my recap, with the same quote from Elias!

Great minds, yadda yadda yadda ...

Here's what they said in pre-game yesterday
Dunleavy talked to Maggette.  Without a Sam and Shaun, he told Maggs, the ball was going to be in Maggette's hands more and he would trusted to make good decisions and make plays.

Clearly Maggette has responded.

Some people are blaming MDsr for Corey NOT making plays and being a general bonehead to date this season.  I suppose that's one interpretation.  Another would be that, given we what we know now about what Corey has in him, he was holding it back.

Imagine a Clippers with Sam leading the charge and Q making up for his oldness on D.  Imagine a Clippers with a lightning bolt off the bench who could be trusted to do...anything at 3 positions and be the point-forward every team wishes it had who could hold his own on D against anyone.  I bet this is the Clippers that Dunleavy imagined coming off game 7 last year.

Maybe it was never possible, but its probably at least as much the fault of Corey's ego as anything.  From what I have seen lately, there is at least a 1 in 5 chance he absolutely HATES Sam and/or Shaun for some reason.  He likes having the ball and he likes having lowly Jason Hart (I'll say again a GREAT pickup) not taking rampant PUJITs.

I'll never question that Corey played hard the entire season, but now we know he could have been playing ALOT smarter.

I don't need Elias to remember this.
Game 6 Suns 106 - Clippers 116
Maggette 27 minutes off the bench 8 shots 25 points 8 rebounds 4 assists 1 turnover

I have more to say on this at a later time, but...
I think people are going to see what they want to see.  Was Corey holding back, or was he being held back?  At least one thing doesn't make sense with the above sequence - MDsr re-inserted Corey into the starting lineup in the first game after the ASB, BEFORE Livingston's injury.  He scored 18 points, played great D and had 5 assists in 37 minutes in the Warriors game which also happened to be Shaun's best game of the season.  At any rate, if the 'come to Jesus' meeting was indeed after Shaun got hurt, it doesn't explain why Corey was a suddenly a starter before the injury.

You have a point
It is clearly both...Dun's new found confidence in Corey, and Corey's improvement.

I'm not a big perception is reality guy
We will probably never know for sure, but I know it takes two to tango.
