Exclusive Photos of the Indian Wells Outdoor Court

These exclusive photos were obtained by highly questionable means and provided by a source(s) deep within the Suns tennis community.

They depict the scene of what will tomorrow be....

a preseason basketball game. Played outside. With no roof.

I don't quite understand why we are all so excited about this game. Myself included. But there you have it. An entire blog post dedicated to grainy pictures of an empty tennis stadium with a basketball court where the net and service boxes normally reside. I can't turn away. I am moth drawn to this flame. I am bringing my racquet.

Basketball Under the Stars

Basketball_20court_medium

The Suns third preseason game Saturday against the Nuggets will be a historic open air event played at the Indian Wells Tennis Center about half way between LA and Phoenix.

Myself along with BSoS blogger Mike Lisboa will be meeting up with BJD's Mark McLane to make sure this game is thoroughly covered from blogger eye level.

We will also find out what happens when you put three bloggers together in the middle of the desert on a Saturday evening near an Indian casino...

I don't expect the outdoors to impact the game all that much. Certainly nothing like when the Sabre's played hockey in the snow. The weather looks to be about 55 and breezy at tip off. Sounds perfect to me.

Here's what the Suns are saying about the game (hint - not much):

Shaq intimidates small girl

  Little_girl_copy_medium

"It was really hard," Fesenko said "I realize that I am not big, I am not strong. I am small girl compared to Shaq. So I have a lot of work to do - I have a lot of work to do - and I need to start right now if I want to make the team, at least this year."
O'Neal didn't say anything to him Thursday, but the 7-foot-1, 300-pound Fesenko said, "One time after I push him in the back, he look at me and this look I will see probably in my nightmares."

Suns play Jazz in Utah

No TV. No radio. No insightful recap...

From the looks of things Diaw, Tucker and Barnes played well.

Here's an early possible trend to watch.

Robin has a very low rebound rate. Is that b/c he's boxing out and letting other guys clean the glass? Is it a meaningless stat after two preseaon games? It's worth watching...

Amare eyes return

Amare talks about his eye. He's eyeing September 20th as his target return date. I assume he means October. Easy mistake...

Gameday Thread - Suns vs. Jazz

Phoenix Suns

vs.

Utah Jazz
0-0 0-0
6:00 PM Pacific / 9:00 PM Eastern
TV: NONE
Probable starters:
Steve Nash PG Deron Williams
Raja Bell SG Ronnie Brewer

Grant Hill(?)

SF Andrei Kirilenko
Boris Diaw
PF Paul Milsap
Shaq C Memhet Okur

There's not much I have to say about the Jazz. They are the one team in the West that didn't do all that much this off season.

The Lakers added Andrew Bynum.

The Blazers added Greg Oden, Jarryydd Bayless and twelve other decent players thanks to Paul Allen's deep pockets.

The Suns replaced the entire bench.

The Spurs got older.

The Jazz didn't seem to do much other then take Deron Williams a Ward house and bind him for eternity. He's a great catch and certainly will only get better but how good will Boozer be this year? I suspect he's peaked. So you are left with a Jazz team that couldn't beat a Bynum-less Lakers in the playoff's ending up about where they did last year. And the year before that. Which is still ahead of the Suns.

I exchanged a few questions with the boys over at True Blue Jazz (formerly known as My Utah Jazz).  You can check it out and perhaps help me understand how my assertion that there isn't a Suns - Jazz rivalry might have pissed them off so much. Shouldn't they be focused on the Trailblazers? Or the Nuggets? Or even the Lakers who we should all just agree to hate?

Phoenix Suns play....basketball!!!

Yes, I am still way to excited just to have watched a full game of professional basketball with my team playing some other team. Even a preseason game against the Hawks has me thoroughly jazzed.

There were ref's. Fans. Spontaneous cheers of Defense! Defense! And there was our young Suns making us proud and frustrated. Often on the same play.

And now a moment of homeriphic hyperbole and hype based on scant evidence and shaky insight (what else are blogs for anyway?).

Finish this sentence with me in the comments. I'll go first.

I predict that at the end of the season....

Attention Stat Geeks...

Here's a blog with a new NBA stat concept....

The Composite Score rating system consists of two components, Offensive Composite Score (OCS) and Defensive Composite Score (DCS). Each is made up of a combination of three advanced statistical metrics and then adjusted based on a player’s position and playing time.

Suns open practice night

click the image to enlarge (the image, not your manhood)

A few other notes of interest:

  • Shaq put a sweet spin move on Lopez and finished on a nicely execute pick and roll with a pretty pass from Hite after Lopez cheated off to cover trap the ball. He moved well for about 3 minutes.
  • The Gorilla looked at least 15lbs lighter. Diet bananas??
  • The Suns dancers still looked hot. I don't get how they can stay so young each year. Don't they age like me?
  • The Sol Patrol boys missed a LOT of trampoline dunks. Clearly they have work to do
  • Ced Ceballos was not in jail. Too bad.
  • Nash and Hill barely played in the 24 minute exhibition
