Oh my FSM! Has it really been almost two weeks since my last Olympiacos update? Well, I guess that's what these 3 day breaks in the Clippers schedule are for, so let's get caught up.
My favorite Greek team is now 5-1 in HMBC play, and tied for first place. Of course, their home loss to Panathinaikos puts them at a slight disadvantage to their dreaded rival, but we'll just have to beat them at their place.
Their last two Greek league games have been laughers. On November 5th they beat Maroussi 91-71 behind 16 points from MBFGC. Then on Sunday they beat Makedonikos by 43, 102-59. MBFGC scored 11 in that one, but clearly Coach Pini Gershon has been resting his stars in these blowouts.
In EuroLeague play, Olympiacos continues to roll and sits at the top of the table in their group with a 3-0 record. They beat the Polish team Prokom Trefl last week by a final score of 97-74. Fromer Wave and Piston Alex Acker scored 23, and also had 7 rebounds and 9 assists. MBFGC scored 12 points in 11 minutes, on 5 for 6 shooting.
As he did in the World Championships (where he missed a total of 3 shots the entire tournament), MBFGC continues to shoot an amazing percentage from the field. In the three games above, he was a combined 17-23, 74%. He has scored in double figures in 4 straight after starting the season slowed by illness.
There's a big EuroLeague game tonight against French club LeMans, featuring Lamar Odom's old Rhode Island teammate Tyson Wheeler.
