Sharp eyed citizens have already figured this out. There have been ads on the site for a week or more, plus there's an overall launch schedule on the mothership, SBNation.com. Next Tuesday, June 29, SBNation will be launching a new site dedicated to LA sports, la.sbnation.com ( hopefully that's the URL - I don't actually know yet). Los Angeles will be the 18th of 20 regional sites in the initial roll out, which began June 6th. If you're a Clippers fan and only a Clippers fan (or if you're a Clippers fan and a Saints fan and a Twins fan, or something crazy like that), then Clips Nation should still be your homepage. But if you're a die hard LA sports fan, following the Dodgers or Angels in baseball season, the Trojans, the Bruins, the Kings or Ducks, etc., then SBNation LA may be the best place for you. Basically, it's your LA newspaper sports section, with all your favorite bloggers, all in one place.
As of now, I'll be contributing a couple of posts a week to SBNation LA - or at least that's the plan. I'll have to resist the urge to write those 4000 word epics - save that for the core fans back at Clips Nation. I'm looking forward to it, because it will give me a chance to take a step back from Clipper minutia from time to time and look at the big picture. Maybe I'll even slip in a post about Pepperdine volleyball or Belmont Shore rugby here and there.
The launch party is at the Capital City Sports Grill on Cahuenga in Hollywood. I'm even going to venture out of Long Beach on a weeknight to be there, and the ClipperWife says she's going also (but I wouldn't hold your breath on that one). The party is from 5 to 8, and there will be complimentary well drinks and beer all evening, courtesy of the fine folks at Crown Royal Black. Here are the details:
Tuesday, June 29th, 2010
5:00 - 8:00 PM
Capitol City Sports Grille
1615 N. Cahuenga Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90028
So come on out next Tuesday. The way I see it, with the Lakers latest championship old news, college sports in a lull (Bruins in the CWS doesn't count cuz it's just baseball), and MLB in the middle of of their 23 month long regular season, the Clippers will SURELY be the lede every day on SBNation LA, at least for the month of July. (Imagine if they actually signed LeBron - then the sarcasm could be omitted from that last sentence and it would be a true statement.) Of course your other favorite LA bloggers will be there as well, from True Blue LA and Halos Heaven and Bruins Nation and Conquest Chronicles and, yes even Silver Screen and Roll.
Did I mention complimentary drinks?
See you Tuesday.
