Nash Out Tonight For Lakers

After suffering a lower right leg contusion on Wednesday, Lakers starting point guard will miss tonight's matchup against the Clippers.

Mark Travis of Silver Screen and Roll talks about the injury and it's ramifications:

After hearing that he was doubtful since he suffered the injury on Wednesday night, it has been reported by Mike Trudell that Steve Nash will not play tonight due to a lower left leg contusion. Nash hurt the leg when he collided with rookie point guard Damian Lillard during the second quarter of Wednesday night's loss to the Portland Trail Blazers. Nash started the second half but left the game on the first dead ball and didn't return. Steve Blake will start in his place tonight.

Nash has looked out of place in the Lakers' offense during the first two games of the season, only averaging four points and four assists on 33% shooting through two games. The Lakers could have used him tonight against Chris Paul and the Clippers - not only because Nash is really good, but also because of how the two players came to be on their current teams and the fun narrative that creates - but you cannot fault the Lakers at all for choosing to rest the veteran point guard. Making sure Nash is healthy is a top priority for Los Angeles this season and trotting him out to play when he's below 100% for the third game of the season wouldn't make very much sense.
