After much deliberation, Los Angeles Clippers point guard Mo Williams decided to pick up his player option for 8.5 million, completing the three-team trade between the Clippers, the Utah Jazz, and the Dallas Mavericks.
Williams, a former all star, has repeatedly declared his desire to start at point guard, which was impossible in Los Angeles due to superstar teammate Chris Paul. He will be sent to the Jazz, and the Clippers will acquire 2011 Sixth Man of the Year Lamar Odom from the Dallas Mavericks, who will not receive a player in the trade, and free cap space for a run in free agency.
Odom, who has one year remaining on his current contract at 8.2 million, is expected to bounce back from a poor year last season with the Mavericks now that he is back in Los Angeles with the team that originally drafted him.
Williams, coincidentally, also returns to Utah, where he was drafted.
