Steve Nash spent eight straight seasons in Phoenix without making the NBA Finals, so now he's making a move west. Marc Stein reports that the 38 year-old point guard from Santa Clara is headed to Los Angeles to play with the Lakers in a sign and trade.
The Suns will receive an unannounced package of draft picks for Nash, as well as a trade exception. Nash's new contract would be appropriately sized to fit into the Lakers' existing trade exception.
Update: The Lakers will send Phoenix their first rounders from 2013 and 2015, and their second rounders from 2013 and 2014. I do not think the picks are protected.
The Lakers also send Phoenix 3 million dollars in compensation.
Nash is set to make 25 million over the next three seasons.
Grant Hill could be set to follow Nash to the Lakers.
Dwight Howard has always said he wanted to play with Nash. A Dwight trade could be looming.
