NBA Standings Watch: Thursday April 2nd

New, comments

There's a big showdown in the Southwest tonight. Feel free to chat about all of tonight's games here!

Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

Tonight in the Association there are only 3 games:

Miami at Cleveland

Houston at Dallas

Phoenix at Golden State

Of these games, only one really has an impact on the Western Conference standings race.

Houston Rockets (51-24) at Dallas Mavericks (46-29)

Time: 5:30 pm PST

Impact: The Dallas Mavericks are coming off of an impressive win against the Oklahoma City Thunder last night in which they helped to create a 4 game cushion between themselves and the 8th seed. The Mavs are in a brutal stretch of games in which they just had OKC, play Houston tonight, then face the Warriors and Suns. Through this all, they are the next team attempting to clinch a playoff spot in the West. Currently the Rockets are tied with the Memphis Grizzlies for the 2nd seed and the share of the Southwest division title and are expecting to have Dwight Howard in action tonight. Not only do the Clippers sit 2 games back in the loss column from the Rockets, but also the San Antonio Spurs, whom the Rockets still must play twice to close out the season. The Clippers will be hoping for a Rockets loss tonight in order to try and gain some ground for the 3rd seed, but the 2nd seed isn't out of the question yet, as well as the idea of San Antonio catching Memphis and Houston, the Spurs could end up with the tiebreaker over both teams.
