It Thursday, and you know what that means. It's time for TWiCH: This Week in Clippers History. As always, we will take a look back at the great (and not so great) history of our favorite team, the Clippers! First, the #TWiCH record:
TWiCH Record (regular season)
39-83
TWiCH Record (playoffs)
2-1
And now, the interesting news of the week:
1975
Bob McAdoo Wins NBA Player of the Year Award
What a year for Mr. Brave, Bob McAdoo. He would average over 43 minutes, 34.5 points, and 14.1 rebounds per game for the season, a season in which saw the Braves win 49 games, and finish 2nd in the Atlantic Division. Unfortunately, they would not be able to get by the Washington Bullets, losing in a 7 game series.
1983
Terry Cummings to Miss Remainder of Rookie Season
Due to a recently diagnosed heart irregularity, Terry Cummings would miss the remainder of his wonderful rookie campaign, in which he averaged 23.7 points and 10.6 rebounds, while shooting over 52%. He would come back the next year, and play in all but one game, before being shipped to Milwaukee in the trade that brought the Clippers Marcus Johnson.
1992
Clippers Win 42nd Game of Season
By beating the Minnesota Timberwolves 115-108, the Clippers got their 42nd win of the season, guarenteeing the franchise it's first winning season since the team left Buffalo. The Clippers would go on to make the playoffs, but would be eliminated in the 1st round by the Utah Jazz.
2009
Zach Randolph Arrested for Suspected DUI
After losing to the Los Angeles Lakers, Zach Randolph was arrested on the 405 after an officer noticed his Rolls Royce swerving. The Clippers would respond by suspending him for 2 games for actions "detrimental to the team".
2012
Gasol Posterized by Blake Griffin, Twice
Coming down the home stretch of the 2011-12 season, the Clippers and the Lakers were in a battle for the Pacific Division title. The Lakers would win the title, and the game between the two on April 4, 2012, would be what would give the Lakers the 1 game advantage for the season. But in the Clippers loss, Blake Griffin dunked on Pau Gasol, not once, but twice.
NBA players would take to Twitter to share their thoughts:
Dear Blake Griffin...ru jus gon dunk these folks for the rest of the game? #2ndHalf
