The Charlotte Hornets have decided not to tender a qualifying offer to Bismack Biyombo, making him an unrestricted free agent on July 1st. Biyombo does not have much of an all-around game, but he is one of the best shot blockers in the game, averaging 2.9 per 36 each of the last two seasons. He also rebounds well, averaging 12.3 and 11.8 per 36 in the last two years.
His lack of utility comes on the offensive end, where he is essentially as limited as DeAndre Jordan while only being 6'9". However, he is a freak athlete, with a 9'3.4" standing reach and a 7'6.2" wingspan. Playing Biyombo as 3rd big could be brutal at times if he paired with DeAndre Jordan on the court, but if he can be signed for the minimum salary, he'd be an excellent mini-DJ to come off the bench in relief of the All-Defense 1st team center, keeping the interior defense sound throughout the entire game.
Bismack's qualifying offer would have been for slightly over $4 million, making it understandable why Charlotte wouldn't tender such an offer. However, for the right price he can still be a valuable addition.
