Report: Wizards Offer Pierce $6.6 Million With Team Option

Details of the Wizards' latest proposal to Paul Pierce have emerged

Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

According to Marc Spears of Yahoo!, Clippers target Paul Pierce has received a substantial offer from the Washington Wizards.

This $6.6 million figure is about double the mMLE, which starts at $3.376 million.  The team option is a bit curious--they clearly don't want a two-year deal, or a player option, which could limit cap space next summer during a free agent chase, but it seems as though Pierce would prefer just a one-year deal to a deal with a team option tacked on.

No agreement has been reported yet, so Pierce could still be waiting for the Clippers.  Once DeAndre Jordan decides his future, Doc Rivers will know how much money he has and where he needs to spend it, and then Pierce will choose between a homecoming to Los Angeles or a return to Washington, D.C.
