The Los Angeles Clippers have given $3 million to the City Year charity. City Year is a foundation that helps mentor students in low-performing urban schools. The announcement was made last Friday at a City Year event with Mayor Eric Garcetti and LA Unified board president Steve Zimmer.
Here is a quote from Andrew Hauptman, co-founder of City Year Los Angeles.
"The Clippers Foundation gift is transformational for City Year Los Angeles, one that allows us to grow into the largest full-time AmeriCorps program in all of California and the largest City ear corps in the country. This means thousands of kids will get the support they need to succeed in school and beyond."
Gillian Zucker had a few words to say on behalf of the Clippers whilst there.
"City Year is a vital, important organization that embodies our Foundation’s mission of making a positive difference, every day, to children in LA. The donation to City Year demonstrates that the LA Clippers — from Steve Ballmer to every member of the organization — is committed to investing in the education of children in Southern California."
This donation to City Year is the largest donation ever made by the LA Clippers Foundation.
