Clippers to Sign Jeff Ayres for Rest of Season

Gearing up for the season's home stretch and a playoff run, the team plans to address a lack of frontcourt depth and fill their 15th and final roster spot with a familiar face.

Welcome back, Jeff!

After playing out two 10-day contracts with the Clippers earlier this year, the 6' 10'' forward will return to provide another big body off the bench. While he only played limited minutes in 5 games in his first stint with the team, he has impressed all season long in the D-league where his averages of 16.2 points, 9.5 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.1 blocks a game earned him a spot on the All-Star roster.

The news was first reported by Shams Charania of The Vertical:

He likely won't see much action, especially come playoff time, but it's a solid signing as he offers Cole Aldrich insurance and six hard fouls should Doc need them. It might not be the (slightly) bigger-name buyout market acquisition that we've grown accustomed to from GM Doc over the years, but Ayres fills an undeniable need as we hold our collective breath awaiting Blake's return.
