NBA Playoffs 2016 Injury Update: Clippers' Austin Rivers Suffers Facial Injury

We don't know the details, but it doesn't look good.

Jayne Kamin-Oncea-USA TODAY Sports

Austin Rivers had a nice start to the Clippers' game 6 in Portland with 5 points and an assist in the opening five minutes.  However, he caught a really hard elbow from Al-Farouq Aminu while attempting to poke away a rebound and bled severely and unmovingly on the court.  It was unclear if Rivers remained conscious while waiting for trainers to tend to him.

It is worth noting that the elbow was clearly unintentional and simply an unfortunate outcome to two players going after a rebound.  Obviously we are hoping for the best for Austin, who is one of the Clippers' best remaining players and their best option to guard Damian Lillard.  We will be posting any updates on his status as they come.

If you are sensitive to blood I would advise skipping the following media:

UPDATE: 11:09 PM EST: The Clippers have announced that Austin Rivers received stitches above and below his left eye, and is probable to return.
