Report: Clippers Close to Trading C.J. Wilcox for Devyn Marble

The Wilcox era might be over.

Sam Sharpe-USA TODAY Sports

According to Joshua Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel, the Clippers are finalizing a deal with the Magic to acquire Devyn Marble for C.J. Wilcox:

The 2020 pick will help the Clippers' shortages of draft assets, while the cash is likely to cover the difference between Wilcox's salary and Marble's cheaper one-year deal.  Marble was the 56th pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, and is entering the final season of a three-year deal.  His contract becomes guaranteed tomorrow, July 15th, which means it's likely that the Clippers are moving Wilcox so that they can cut Marble for a roster spot.

Essentially, the Clippers are moving Wilcox for a 2020 second round pick, and they'll cut Marble (who Orlando was going to cut anyway).  They're sending Orlando some money to cover Wilcox's deal.

The intriguing part of this deal is that the Clippers are clearly doing it to open up a roster spot--so what will they do with that new spot?  I doubt they'd be making this move without a name in mind.
