2017-18 Clippers Promotions: What You Need to Know

Every year, the Clippers put out a calendar of special nights with free giveaways throughout the year.  We’re going to explore some of the best nights throughout the year, which can be found at www.Clippers.com/promotions.

Star Wars Night – December 11th, 2017

So starting us off is Star Wars Night, which corresponds with the release of the upcoming film Star Wars: The Last Jedi. On this night, fans will be getting a Milos Teodosic Jedi bobblehead. If you think about it, it’s pretty obvious why he was chosen to be the Clippers’ resident Jedi: The guy effortlessly makes these incredible passes that seem possible only with the use of the Force. If this year is like the Star Wars Nights of the past, the team will go all out. There will be sound effects throughout the game, full-on theming of the arena, and we’ve been told that there will even be Star Wars characters on-hand in Staples Center this year. If you’ve got kids, this will be a great night to bring them.

Other Bobbleheads

For those collectors out there (and I know there are plenty of you), there are a number of other bobbleheads that’ll be given away on the season, so I’ll list them here:

On January 8th we have a DeAndre Jordan All Star bobblehead, which will commemorate DJ's first time as an All Star last season, which includes his first time participating in the Slam Dunk Competition as well. If you’re looking for a collector’s item, this is it.

Then, on January 22nd we have a Danilo Gallinari bobblehead, and from what we’re being told it’s going to have a very Italian theme. Will he be making pasta? Will he be performing top quality opera? Will he be pouring a glass of the finest Chianti? We’ll just have to wait and see.

And last but not least, on March 6th, we have a Blake Griffin bobblehead. Not much more needs to be said here, but since Blake is the face of this franchise and clear-cut leader of this team, this is going to be the centerpiece of any bobblehead collection.

WWE Night – October 28th, 2017

I know there are a ton of WWE fans out there, so keep this one on your calendar as well. Like NBA JAM Night, if you purchase your ticket with a special promo code ("WWE"), you’ll receive a Clippers-inspired throwback WWE t-shirt.

What’s more, the Clippers will be giving away tickets to upcoming WWE events, including Monday Night Raw on December 4th and even some Pay Per View events. Like the other theme nights, the arena will be decked-out in WWE-themed gear, and there will even be WWE legends on-hand throughout the night. If you’re a WWE family, make sure you bring the kids to this one.

NBA JAM Night – January 13th, 2018

This is probably going to be my favorite theme night this season. Attendees who purchase their tickets with a special promo code ("NBAJAM") will receive a throwback t-shirt showing the NBA JAM player selection screen, and DeAndre and Blake as the chosen players. I mean how amazing is this?

I hope Bill Clinton shows up and dunks on someone.

But that’s hardly the coolest part of the evening. The Clippers have managed to get Tim Kitzrow, the actual voice of NBA JAM, as the in-arena announcer for the night. Just imagine DeAndre slamming the ball home after a beautiful Milos lob, and the announcer going, “BOOM SHAKALAKA!” Or Gallo hitting a consecutive three pointer and the announcer shouting, “HE’S ON FIRE!” For those of us who grew up with this game being the pinnacle of basketball video games, this is going to be pretty nostalgic.

Appreciation Nights

The Clippers have always done a great job of recognizing various cultural groups that reside in Los Angeles, one of the most diverse cities in the world. And they always have really great giveaways on these nights. All of these appreciation nights require promo codes, which can be found at www.Clippers.com/specialevents.

A few highlights: Native American Cultural Night (November 4th), will feature awesome hats and a t-shirt if you use the promo code, and most likely have a nice halftime performance. Jewish Heritage Night (December 20th) will have Clipper-themed menorahs given out. Filipino Heritage Night (January 8th) will feature Filipino artist apl.de.ap of the members of the Black Eyed Peas, performing their classic hit I Got a Feeling. Latino Heritage Night (March 18th), will have t-shirts and feature a pre-game festival, great for the family. And finally USC Night (April 9th) will have USC/Clipper-themed beanies with the Trojan helmet-crest on the top.

There are a ton of other great nights, all with some kind of giveaway, and again they are listed at www.Clippers.com/specialevents.

Heart of LA

There are a number of events throughout the year aimed at our child-attendees (13-years or younger), which those of you with kids should keep an eye on. We’ve got a Chuck the Condor cape (November 5th), an Austin Rivers growth chart (December 9th), a Blake Griffin kids’ watch (January 6th), some DeAndre Jordan portable speakers (February 3rd), and a Chuck the Condor holder (March 4th). A word of caution: all of these are limited in how many are given away, so don’t make any promises to the kids unless you plan to arrive an hour early!

There’s a ton going on this season, and since most of the actual giveaways are limited to at least the first 10,000 fans (often much less), it’s all about being the first ones to know about these things.

Wrapping Up

I truly hope this doesn’t come off as being a promoted post of some kind—I really do get excited for all of these fun events/giveaways. As they’ve ibncreased in frequency the further we get into the Steve Ballmer Era, it’s been a reminder that we’ve truly left the Clippers of Old in the rear-view mirror. This is a team that’s willing to spend time and money on both its players and its fans, and that’s a big, big deal.
