According to a team announcement, Clippers forward Danilo Gallinari will miss at least the rest of December with his current left glute injury.

The Clippers’ marquee free agency signing, Gallinari has started in all 11 of his appearances this year, but has now missed 18 games—13 with an initial right glute contusion, followed by a brief two-game return that sparked his current absence. The team expected Danilo to be able to return sometime soon from what they called a “left glute contusion,” but new medical imaging has revealed a partial tear.

Now, Clippers medical staff hope that by continuing the rehabilitation process, they can return him to the court sometime in January. The team gave no timetable for when in January Gallinari will be re-evaluated, which leaves a lot of ambiguity for his return.

In the meantime, forwards Wesley Johnson and Sam Dekker will continue to be the most obvious beneficiaries in terms of playing time, with rookie Sindarius Thornwell, big man Montrezl Harrell, and two-way contract players C.J. Williams and Jamil Wilson also standing to benefit. Wilson is nearing his 45-day limit on the Clippers roster, while Williams has a little more breathing room.
