Every year, the NBA invites a select group of prospects to come to the “green room.” These are the high-profile lottery picks who take the standard handshake picture with the commissioner, receive their draft cap, and do an interview on the ESPN broadcast. Most prospects who aren’t invited stay home, sometimes organizing private draft viewing parties with family and friends.
Oklahoma State point guard Jawun Evans, who was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers with the 39th pick and traded to the L.A. Clippers, went a different direction. He was in attendance at Barclays C enter with his family last night. Check out his celebration and handshake on-stage with NBA Deputy commissioner Mark Tatum—and ignore the fact that he’s wearing a 76ers draft cap.

That’s a pretty special moment and a dream come true for a young basketball player—I feel like even if I wasn’t invited to the green room, I’d be in attendance to have that moment up on the stage after being drafted.
