According to EastTexasMatters.com, former Louisiana Tech wing Jaron Johnson will play for the Clippers’ summer league team in Las Vegas. Johnson is a 6’6” wing who went undrafted in the 2014 NBA Draft. He was in training camp with the Washington Wizards in 2015 but did not make the team. He played for Houston in the 2015 Las Vegas Summer League before playing for Indiana in Orlando and the D-League Select team in Las Vegas last summer.
Johnson played the entire 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the NBA D-League, as well as a portion of the 2016-17 season, when he also spent time playing for Perth in the Australian NBL.
In 133 career D-League games, Johnson has posted averages of 16.2 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game while shooting 46% from the field and 37% from three. Notably, in 13 games last season (small sample size alert!) he shot 44.8% from deep on almost 7 attempts per game in just 24 minutes a night.
In 14 games with Perth, Johnson posted similar averages—13.1 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 1.8 assists in 26 minutes a game.
Johnson will be joined on the wings by rookie Sindarius Thornwell, who the Clippers selected with the 48th pick in last week’s draft, and James Bell, another summer league signee with international experience.
