The Clippers’ hopes of a Summer League Championship came to an abrupt halt yesterday as they fell to the Miami Heat in a second-round playoff game.
It will be our last look of the summer at Clipper draft picks Brice Johnson, Jawun Evans, and Sindarius Thornwell. It’s likely that we’ve already seen the last of David Michineau, who suffered a hamstring injury on Monday. We could also be seeing our last glimpses of Isaiah Hicks and Kyle Wiltjer as Clippers, as both have non-guaranteed contracts and are unlikely to make the team’s regular-season roster.
One wild card is #SummerLeagueHero Jamil Wilson, who has been astoundingly effective offensively in limited minutes this week, making 22 of his 27 field goals and shooting exceptionally well from deep. The Clippers could look to sign Wilson to a non-guaranteed deal or a two-way contract with their NBA D-League team. Or, Wilson, who is technically a free agent, could reach an agreement with a different team and not play for the Clippers tomorrow altogether.
For the Golden State Warriors, big-league success hasn’t been matched in Vegas. They’re just 1-4 coming into today, and led by second-year player Patrick McCaw, who has averaged 20 points a game after playing a rotation role for the champion Warriors last season. No other Summer Warrior is averaging double-digit scoring, though rookie big man Jordan Bell has stuffed that stat sheet and is definitely a player to watch for.
The game is at 3:30 PM Pacific Time and will likely be shown on NBATV, though the official broadcast is TBA on NBA.com.
