The BIG3 arrives in Chicago as 10 former Clippers hope to help lead their teams to a victory. Trilogy remains undefeated heading into the week, as four teams seek just their second win of the season. Availability and injuries could be a factor for a few matchups, and we may not know who will not be present until right before the games begin. For the Clippers-faithful, here are your Week 5 game previews.
Game 1: Ball Hogs (1-3) vs. Power (3-1)
Cuttino Mobley led Power to their third win of the season in Week 4 against Ghost Ballers behind his 20 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists, and he now has a chance to go 4-1 against a Ball Hogs team that needs to get out of a 1-3 hole. Rasual Butler, who put up 22 points in Week 1 and 19 points in Weeks 2 and 3, fell into a bit of a slump last week for Ball Hogs. Only scoring 5 points, 2 assists, and 1 board in a loss against Trilogy, look for him to have a bounce back week, whether or not it amounts to a win for Ball Hogs.
Game 2: Tri-State (1-3) vs. Trilogy (4-0)
Last week, Tri-State finally notched the first win of the season against 3’s Company, but they have their work cut out for them this week. They’ll be facing undefeated Trilogy, who might still be without the lone Clipper in this matchup, Kenyon Martin. Martin has been out since his lowly 2 points in Week 1, but Trilogy seem to have been just fine in his absence. There have been no formal announcements regarding his availability, but look for Trilogy to have the advantage this week.
Game 3: 3’s Company (1-3) vs. 3-Headed Monsters (3-1)
Despite Al Thornton’s 20 points and 5 rebounds last week against Tri-State, it just wasn’t enough to carry 3’s Company to a win. In the Week 4 loss, 3’s Company didn’t receive double-digit scoring from anyone outside of Thornton. 3’s Company will need more from everyone else if they hope to beat 3-Headed Monsters this week, who were lead by Rashard Lewis and his 30 points, a BIG3 single game scoring record. It also remains to be seen whether or not Ruben Patterson will suit up for 3’s Company, after an absence during Week 4.
Game 4: Killer 3s (1-3) vs. Ghost Ballers (2-2)
Five Clippers will likely be suiting up to finish off the Week 5 matchups, featuring some of the very best in the BIG3. Last week, Killer 3s lost against 3-Headed Monsters despite 24 points and 3 rebounds from Stephen Jackson, 10 points and 9 rebounds from Reggie Evans, and 8 points, 6 rebounds from Brian Cook. There have been no formal announcements regarding the availability of Chauncey Billups, but just as they needed his extra boost in Week 3, Killer 3s could certainly use the help of Mr. Big Shot to get out of a 1-3 hole. Ricky Davis managed to score 23 points and 9 rebounds in both Week 1 and Week 3, pitching in a modest 12 points and 3 rebounds for Ghost Ballers in last week's loss against Power. Since he seems to score well in odd weeks, look for Davis to give Ghost Ballers a solid chance against a Killer 3s team that can’t get much help outside of its former Clippers.
Game 1 will tip off at 2:00pm (CST) at UIC Pavilion in Chicago, IL. For those who cannot watch in-person, follow updates from the BIG3 here.
