Per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN (and confirmed by every major player in the NBA news business), the Clippers have traded Blake Griffin to the Pistons (as well as Willie Reed and Brice Johnson).
In return, the Clippers are receiving Avery Bradley, Tobias Harris, Boban Marjanoic, a 2nd round pick, and a protected 1st round draft pick.
Bradley is a 27 year old shooting guard who is scoring 15 points per game on 40% shooting from the field and 38% from three, and is known as a defensive stopper (though advanced numbers have never liked him). He will be a free agent after this season.
Tobias Harris is a 25 year old combo forward currently averaging 18 points and 5 rebounds per game on 45% shooting from the field, and 40% from three. He is signed through next season for $14.8 million.
The pick protections on the first round pick, as described by Woj, are below. The second round pick appears to be unprotected.
This is absolutely shocking. I had no inkling this was coming, and it signals a complete shift for the franchise. While Bradley and Harris are good players, this is the end of this Clippers’ team as we know it. Expect DeAndre Jordan and Lou Williams trades to come soon, probably for young players or picks.
We will have more detailed analysis of the trade, what it means for the Clippers, and Blake’s legacy with the Clippers, but for right now, surprise reactions are the order of the day. Comment below.
